Beauty products can come with a hefty price tag so when you find something affordable, and accessible that is as effective as any premium product, there is cause for celebration. Banana face masks check all those boxes with the added benefit of being natural and thus free of any harsh chemical products. Bananas are packed with nutrients including carotene, potassium, and vitamins E, B1, B, and C which work wonders for the skin, making it look radiant and youthful.

A banana face mask is made by mashing ripe bananas and applying the mixture to the face and neck. It is great for people with dry, oily, and sensitive skin. The nutrients in bananas nourish and moisturize and protect the skin from damage and signs of ageing. Here are a few different recipes depending on your present needs.

Banana face mask recipes

1. Banana face mask for skin brightening

Vitamin A in bananas helps to fade out dark spots and fights other signs of ageing like fine lines and wrinkles. This recipe is also good for oily skin and helps in controlling excess oil and sebum. Lemon juice works as an excellent astringent, while honey helps in keeping the moisture restored.

Ingredients
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
Recipe
  1. Peel and mash a ripe banana in a bowl
  2. Mix honey and lemon juice and the mashed banana to make an even paste

Rub the mix gently on your face and neck. Leave it on for approximately 15 minutes and then rinse with cold water.

This can be applied two to three times a week.

2. Banana face mask for acne

B vitamins in bananas can accelerate the healing of wounds caused by acne and other skin conditions and overall are known to induce positive effects on wound healing. Baking soda offers a ton of microbial and antibacterial properties as well as exfoliating properties. You can also use this recipe when you need a natural deep cleanser and oil remover.

Ingredients
  • 1 ripe banana
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
Recipe
  1. Peel and mash a ripe banana in a bowl
  2. Mix baking soda and turmeric powder with the mashed banana to make a smooth paste.

Apply the mix generously over your face and neck and leave it on for 10-15 minutes.

This is an exfoliating mask and should not be used every day or too frequently. After washing the mask off, gently massage your skin with ice wrapped in a soft towel. This has the effect of tightening the pores to prevent pollutants from entering the skin.

  • 1 teaspoon of honey
Recipe

Natural Skincare Tips For Dry Skin

6. Banana, oatmeal, and coconut oil face mask

Oatmeal has an abrasive texture that will exfoliate your skin and get rid of excess dead skin cells. Coconut oil or coconut milk will nourish and hydrate your skin.

Ingredients
  • 1 medium-sized banana
  • 1 tablespoon oatmeal
  • 1 teaspoon coconut milk
Recipe
  1. Peel and mash the ripe banana in a bowl
  2. Mix the oatmeal, coconut milk, and mashed banana into a paste

Useful Tips

Clean your face and neck ensuring you have taken off every trace of cosmetics that you may previously have had on. Taking a hot shower or a steam bath before you apply the face mask also has the benefit of cleaning your skin and opening up your pores so you could consider that.

These mixtures are usually drippy and messy. Apply face masks over a sink to prevent a mess. You can skip moisturizing at the end for the most part by adding ½ a teaspoon of olive or coconut oil to the face mask mix for most face masks.

The options are endless when it comes to banana face masks. If all you have is a banana that will do. If you have eggs, avocado and papaya you can also mix those in. Cucumber slices for your eyes as you enjoy your home spa also goes a long way. The natural ingredients in your kitchen are all you need for your DIY spa.
