Mitchelle and Jackson had been together for two and a half years. During the first days of their relationship, Mitchelle stayed with her sister and would visit Jackson from time to time. When their relationship clocked one year, she started moving her things into his house slowly. Eventually, she ended up moving in with him.
Jackson was a chef by profession and over the years he had grown tired of working for other people. Mitchelle urged him to open up his restaurant and in a few months, he managed to do so using his savings. The first few months Jackson managed to get a hold of running a business. However, as the months went by the price of food went up as well as taxes which ended up affecting his business.
He would go to work, deal with different issues and end up throwing tantrums at home because of small things. Mitchelle unlike most women was very understanding and would try her best to calm him down and be there for him. She would also try her best to help him on weekends as a way to reduce his stress.
Although this seemed to help him at work it didn’t change the situation at home. Jackson would get home and throw a fit about every small thing. This went on for three months and although Mitchelle knew he didn’t mean to be hurtful; she still took some of his words to heart. As the business continued to go through its challenges, Jackson struggled with balancing his finances. This led to him being behind on rent.
James, the landlord had grown tired of his excuses and decided to give him a final warning. Mitchelle knew this ordeal would lead to more frustrations and Jackson had already been through enough. So, she decided to dig into her savings and pay for the rent and do shopping for the house. This act of kindness made things easier between her and Jackson and they slowly went back to being a loving couple. Jackson moved from throwing his frustrations at Mitchelle to talking to her about his daily challenges.
All seemed well until one day when they both decided to go to the restaurant and one of the customers ended up admiring Mitchelle. Although he didn’t show it, Jackson was filled with anger and waited until they got home to address the issue.
“Was it really necessary to wear that dress?” He asked her once they stepped into the house.
“Excuse me?” She said.
“I need you to get rid of all those skimpy clothes you wear,” He said.
“Where is this coming from?” Mitchelle asked.
“You dress inappropriately almost every day like you’re out here looking for another man!” He snapped.
Mitchelle had a lot to say but decided to swallow her words to avoid starting an argument.
“Fine, I’ll get rid of them,” She said as she went up to their room.
The following day she removed all her short clothes from her side of the wardrobe. The thought of getting rid of them was so painful so she decided to take them to her sister’s house. While she was there, she tried her best to contain her emotions to avoid talking about her relationship troubles. Unfortunately, the minute her sister asked how she was doing the tears just flowed and she ended up telling her the whole story.
Jade hugged her and promised to be there for her whenever she needed to talk to someone. This made Mitchelle feel a little better and by the time she went home, her heart felt less heavy. That talk made her sister concerned so she would send Mitchelle encouragement messages from time to time just to help her stay sane.
Mitchelle would also visit her sister regularly just to catch up. During one of her visits, she got a call from Jackson. Since the opening of the restaurant, he rarely called her unless it was important. She picked up the phone and Jackson started yelling at her, asking her where she was and informing her that they needed to talk. Since she was far, she asked what the problem was and he asked why she was out discussing their relationship issues.
Mitchelle started to wonder how he knew that she had talked to her sister about their issues.
“So, you don’t want to give me an answer? Okay fine,” He snapped and hang up.
“I think you should cool down so you can go home and have a proper conversation with him,” Jade said.
Mitchelle stayed for thirty minutes and then headed home. Jade knew that she was not in the right mental state to deal with Jackson so they talked on call until she got to the gate of the building. The minute she got out of the car she hang up and Mitchelle made her way to the house.
When she got to the door, she was surprised to find her clothes on the floor. Her first thought was to knock and attempt to talk to him but Mitchelle hated public drama. She knew that Jackson would argue with her on the spot and that would have made things even worse. So instead, she called her sister, explained to her what had happened and asked her to come with her suitcase.
The wait seemed long but eventually, she arrived and the two gathered the clothes and put them in the suitcase. Once they were done, they stood up to leave but heard the door being opened. Mitchelle thought for a moment that Jackson had come to his senses, and he would invite her in to talk. However, he bluntly asked her for his house keys back as well as the gate keys.
Mitchelle tried so hard to fight back the tears as she handed him the keys. Once he grabbed them the tears just flowed. In an attempt to save the relationship, Jade decided to talk on her behalf.
“Jackson, kwani what is going on here? This is a small issue that could have been solved without all this drama,”
“First it was her skimpy clothes and now she is sharing all our relationship details out there,” He said.
“Honestly, she only talked to me because these issues were overwhelming her. Then about her dressing that’s how she has been dressing throughout your relationship. Furthermore, she stopped wearing those clothes,”
“Here,” he said as he handed Jade a couple of shoes and bags.
“Even you know this is very immature of you plus she paid rent so this is like her place,” Jade said.
Jackson shut the door and the two sisters were even more shocked.
“Let’s go,” Mitchelle said as she dragged her suitcase.
“Trust me, he is going to regret this decision and will come running back,” Jade said.
True to her word, Jackson did attempt to get back together with Mitchelle three months later but given the disrespect he had shown her, she refused. The love was still there but going back meant having to tolerate so much toxicity which she wasn’t ready for.
