Dry skin can be caused by many factors, including hot or cold weather, low moisture in the air such as because of using space heater,s which reduce humidity, soaking in hot water for long and just good-old genetics that have some people just naturally having dry skin. Dry skin can cause a feeling of skin tightness, itching, flaking, scaling or peeling, fine lines or cracks, and redness. It is usually not serious and can be addressed with home remedies,s including face masks.

Face masks for dry skin are designed to hydrate and replenish moisture, help encourage healing and reduce the physical effects of dry skin on the skin, such as wrinkles and fine lines.

1. Cucumber face mask

Ingredients

  • ¼ cucumber
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1 spoonful of plain, unflavored yoghurt

Instructions

  • Cleanse face thoroughly.
  • Mix all the ingredients together, going for a thick consistency. You can choose to whip the egg whites, but it’s not a necessity.
  • Spread it evenly over the face and add a second layer.
  • Leave it on for at least 20 minutes, longer if you wish.
  • Rinse with warm water.

Cucumber has high water content. It refreshes and hydrates the skin, making it plump and youthful. Egg whites have properties that tighten the skin and make any enlarged pores less obvious. Honey also boosts your skin’s moisture levels, provides suppleness, and takes away that uncomfortable,e tight feeling from egg whites. Yoghurt’s creamy texture helps lock in moisture.

2. Carrot face mask

Ingredients

  • 1 Carrot
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil or olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • ½ avocado

Instructions

  • Boil or steam the carrot until it is tender.
  • Mash or blend it with the avocado.
  • Mix the carrot/avocado mix with honey and your preferred oil.

Carrot is a great source of Vitamin A, which is essential for skin health. It is a great source of potassium, which can get rid of dryness and inflammation on the skin. To really amplify its benefits, mix it with moisture-filled ingredients like honey and avocado. Avocado contains vitamins A & E, both of which moisturise the skin. Vitamin A also helps the skin produce new cells, restores natural collagen, resulting in younger-looking skin.

3. Avocado olive oil

Ingredients

  • 1 avocado
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • ½ lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

  • Mash the avocado and add the honey.
  • Squeeze half a lemon’s juice in the mix if you’re also struggling with acne.
  • Apply the mixture on your already clean face.
  • Leave the mask on for 15 minutes or until it dries.
  • Wash it off with lukewarm water.

Avocado is packed full of nutrients that moisturise the skin and help in the generation of new cells for younger-looking skin. It is also a great cleanser that penetrates your pores, getting rid of dead cells, oils, and any dirt, leaving your skin fresh and deeply cleansed. Honey is a super-moisturiser, and lemon juice helps in the fight against acne and breakouts.

4. Butter

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of softened butter
  • 1 tablespoon raw honey
  • ¼ teaspoon of lemon juice

Instructions

  • Combine all the ingredients until well mixed and creamy.
  • Apply on your already clean face.
  • Leave it on for 20-30 minutes.
  • Wash off with warm water.

Butter has a high concentration of fatty acids and Vitamin A. It moisturises the skin and brings out a natural glow on the face. Combine with honey for even more moisturising and lemon juice for clearing the skin from breakouts and acne.

5. Banana

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 1 tablespoon raw honey
  • ¼ yoghurt

Instructions

  • Peel the bananas and mash them in a bowl.
  • Mix in the honey and yoghurt with the banana puree.
  • Use a cosmetic brush or your hands to spread it on your face.
  • Leave it on your face for 20 minutes or until it dries completely.
  • Wash off with warm water.

Bananas are nutritious with potassium, Vitamin E and Vitamin C. They are also full of moisture, which will hydrate your skin. Honey and yoghurt also elevate skin moisture levels. The combination of banana, honey, and yoghurt will boost, nourish and add a glow to your skin.
