Skin breakouts are caused by a number of things including diet, dirt, hormones, stress or products. It can be pesky and sometimes, embarrassing when you unexpectedly wake up with pimples on your face. Here are some things to include in your regimen to deal with breakouts and get radiant, flawless skin.

  1. Exfoliate

Exfoliating is like giving new life to your skin. It gets rid of dead skin cells and dirt build up that cause breakout. It’s advisable to exfoliate daily especially if you have an active lifestyle or wear heavy make-up. However, some dermatologists advice you not to over-exfoliate as this dries out your skin and accelerates its ageing process. The most acne-prone areas are cheeks, forehead and nose. So, pay close attention to these areas when exfoliating.

  1. Use Bio Oil For Acne Scars

Popping a pimple is tempting and the go-to solution for most people. However, this short-term remedy causes scarring which affects your skin’s appearance. Untreated acne is also likely to cause acne scars. Bio oil helps in treating acne scars. In fact, it is one of the biggest uses of bio-oil. It works by hydrating the inflamed patches thus reducing its appearance and other skin blemishes. Bio Oil is made from calendula, lavender, chamomile, and rosemary that are all-natural and easily absorbed into the skin. Therefore, it’s suitable for all skin types and will not clog your pores. Check out our Product Review: Can Bio Oil Improve Skin Health?

  1. Change Your Pillowcase

Cleanliness is the first step to prevent breakouts. Due to oil and dirt residues from your hair, your pillowcase isn’t as clean as you might think it is. Changing your pillowcase at least once a week is fine to ensure that it’s hygienic enough and your face stays acne-free. If you’re more prone to breakouts, try to change it as often as possible.

  1. Clean Your Makeup Brushes

It is important to clean any item that comes in contact with your face, more so your makeup brushes. Makeup brushes carry excess products that build up over time and become dirt. Cleaning them ensures you get rid of any bacteria that can cause breakouts. There are makeup brushes cleansers. However, you can use ordinary soap and warm water to clean your brushes.

  1. DIY Face Mask

Face masks contain everyday ingredients like honey, papaya, cinnamon and milk that are very effective in getting rid of breakouts. However, their prices are likely to cause more breakout. Here are some 10 Homemade Facial Masks For Acne

  1. Steam It Out

Ever wondered why people from the coastal region have beautiful, glowing skin? Steam opens up your pores which helps remove dirt and oil from your skin. Since we don’t have this natural skin care remedy, you can create your own by placing your head over a warm bowl of water and steaming for 2-3 minutes. Keep a good distance from the bowl so as not to burn yourself.

  1. Improve Your Diet

Most processed carbs like white bread, rice, chocolate and fatty foods cause breakouts. Spicy food is also a culprit to this. Excessive amounts of these foods cause an imbalance in the skin’s pH levels resulting in acne. It might be time to cut down on your favourite guilty pleasure.

These remedies apply to mild cases of acne or pimples. If you experience severe acne it is advisable to seek professional help.
