Dealing with a baby mama is stressful especially when they are as stubborn as Sheila. However, as my mother said when you got her pregnant, didn’t you know she was stubborn? I knew she was stubborn but let’s just blame it on the heat of the moment and one thing leading to another. Now, I have to make arrangements to see my daughter and it’s always on my baby mama’s terms.

Sheila and I met through work. I was a PR consultant for the company she worked at and she was one of the social media managers. I instantly liked her although she was very different from the type of girls I dated. She was loud and somehow aggressive. She actually introduced herself to me which I thought was bold. As time went by, I grew more and more attached to her and so started developing feelings.

“Can we meet after work?” I asked her.

“Where are you taking me?” She asked.

“Anywhere you want to go.”

This was the first time I was taking her on an official date and I wanted everything to be perfect. After debating, we both settled for Charlie’s Restaurant. I knew I couldn’t go wrong with the choice. The food was good and the drinks were even better. We ended up staying there until 11 pm when both of us suddenly realized how late it was. Luckily, the following day was a Saturday so I asked her to spend the night at my place.

“We still have a lot to catch up on,” I said cheekily.

Surprisingly, she smiled and agreed with ease. I knew I had finally got her exactly where I wanted and I was right. That night, we had earth-shuttering sex. I didn’t even think she could let go like that but I wasn’t complaining. We had sex five times before tapping out.

The following day, she woke me up with breakfast. She had found her way to the kitchen while I was asleep and prepared the most delicious French toast and black coffee I have ever had.

“It helps with the hangover.” She said handing me the piping hot cup of coffee and then placing the plate of French toast on the side table.

She then joined me in bed and cuddled next to me as I had my breakfast. I kept wondering who this girl was. She was the complete opposite of the Sheila I knew for the past few months. She was my dream girl and I wanted to make her mine.

Things continued to flourish and our relationship blossomed. Then, everything came crashing down. Two months into the relationship, Sheila started complaining of nausea and fatigue. The symptoms lasted for several days until she suggested that she should take a pregnancy test.

“You think you might be pregnant?” I asked.

“Well, what else could it be?”

“Are you not on birth control?”

“No, I’m not!” She replied slightly irritated.

She took the pregnancy test and it came back positive. After taking two more tests, we knew without a doubt that she was pregnant. That was the beginning of my hell.

At first, I thought she was being difficult because of the pregnancy. We were both in shock and unprepared to have a child, especially that early in the relationship. I was patient throughout the pregnancy and hardly protested despite being treated horribly. I treated her like a queen. After all, she was carrying my child.

The delivery happened without a hitch. However, she explicitly asked me not to come to the hospital because she would be in distress. I had been nothing but good to her so I didn’t understand why she was shutting me off. It didn’t stop there. I wasn’t allowed to participate in my daughter’s life unless Sheila permitted me.

This affected my work productivity since I was constantly troubleshooting personal problems when I should have been working. Eventually, I got fired from my work which put a strain on my relationship with my child since I couldn’t provide financially.

I decided to start my own business since I was pretty good at my job and I had made some good connections. Sure enough, my business started to grow and get high-paying clients. I slowly started getting back on my feet which inevitably brought my baby mama back into my life.

“You need to take care of your child.” She said over the phone.

“I can pick her up this weekend.”

“You have to take her tomorrow.”

“I’m working.”

“I don’t care.” She said and hung up.

I didn’t communicate with her until the following day. By that time, I had already started my meeting with a high-profile client at a high-end restaurant. Though I tried to ignore my calls, I couldn’t stop thinking about my daughter. I excused myself and then called my baby mama.

“You won’t see her ever again unless you come to pick her up.” My baby mama threatened.

“Okay. You have to bring her because I can’t leave my meeting.” I said then gave her my address.

I then returned to the meeting and a few minutes later, I could hear the sound of screaming children and a woman shouting my name.

“David! David! Don’t touch me!” She shouted at the waiters.

I turned to see Sheila crushing my daughter in a stroller with three other kids in tow. I ran towards her and diverted her away from my clients.

“What are you doing?” I asked in shock.

“You wanted your daughter. Here she is.”

“Who are these other kids?”

“My friends. I was babysitting them.” She said.

I took my daughter to the receptionist and asked her to watch her for a few minutes. She graciously agreed and I had to rush the remaining part of my meeting so I could go and take care of my daughter. Once again, my clients were very understanding and even offered to reschedule the meeting.

Despite the chaotic circumstances, I was happy to have my daughter with me. I found out that my baby mama ran a daycare at her apartment and that was the reason she had three other children with her. Unfortunately, this is my reality and I have to deal with the chaos that is my baby mama if I want to spend time with my daughter. I don’t think we will ever get back together but I’m grateful she gave me a beautiful baby girl.
