They say a picture is worth a thousand words. In my case, it was worth more than that and it uncover the unimaginable. I got into a relationship with Victor, my ex-boyfriend, knowing very well he had a baby mama. Normally, I don’t do this for obvious reasons. Most men with baby mamas have baby mama drama but after getting to know Victor, I learnt that he didn’t even communicate with his baby mama. When he needed to send money, he called her mother.
Our relationship was pure bliss. Looking back, things were almost too good to be true. We never argued since he didn’t entertain other women. He was exceptionally affectionate. Most importantly, he didn’t have baby mama drama.
Since he had proved himself to be a loyal man, I didn’t have any reason to suspect anything. I never went through his phone nor did I listen to his conversations. A part of me also didn’t want to find anything suspicious since that was one of the best relationships I had been in.
A few months into our relationship, I took a short trip with my friends to celebrate a birthday. I was gone for two days which I didn’t think was an issue but when I came back, things seemed off. Victor was a bit distant and I thought it was because I travelled without him.
“What’s wrong, babe?” I asked after days of getting the cold shoulder.
“Nothing.”
“Are you fine?”
“Yes.”
“Why are you acting strange?”
“Nothing.”
That was all I got from him. The more I tried to press him about it, the more he became irritated. After some time, I dropped the issue but our relationship was never the same. I also noticed that a new unsaved number kept calling him at all hours of the night. Whenever the number called, he either ignored it or dashed to another room and spoke in whispers. Again, I didn’t think much of it. I think I trusted Victor too much and that was my mistake.
I tried listening to the conversations on numerous occasions but I could barely hear anything. However, he was always laughing and giggling. We continued to have awkward moments in the relationship which only raised my suspicions. Eventually, I decided to do something I swore I would never do. I went through his phone.
It wasn’t easy because Victor always had his phone with him and he slept hours after me. So, I couldn’t get his phone from him. I thought about getting a hacker who could access his phone but it wasn’t worth it. I waited patiently for the opportunity to check his phone. After a month, he finally let his guard down.
I had been especially nice to him throughout that month and didn’t question him on the late-night phone calls. It must have worked because he started leaving his phone around me. On that particular day, he left his phone to charge and went to one of his friend’s houses who lived in the same building as us. I already knew his password so as soon as he walked out the door, I unlocked his phone.
Most of the messages were erased but he forgot to erase his m-pesa messages. I noticed that he had sent more than a hundred thousand shillings to a specific number and it wasn’t the mother of his baby mama. It was a woman’s number according to the registered name. The name looked familiar to his baby mama. I didn’t know her last name but I knew the first one and they were similar. This was also the same number that had been calling him at all hours of the night.
I decided to call the number to find out who it was. She picked up almost immediately.
“Who is this?” I asked
“Ask your boyfriend.” She replied then hung up.
I called back several times but she didn’t answer. Then, I thought about checking his images. I didn’t expect to find anything but I almost fainted after what I saw. There were tens of pictures of a woman. As I scrolled through, there were nude pictures then I saw the picture that tied everything together. It was my boyfriend with the same girl taking a nude selfie in front of a mirror.
I felt sick to my stomach but I knew I had to act fast before Victor came back. I sent the pictures to my phone and then called the girl again since I suspected that she was the girl in the pictures.
“I have your nudes on my phone so you better tell me who you are before I release them.”
“Try it!! I will sue you. You don’t know who I am.”
“Are you his baby mama?”
She was silent. “Yes, I am.”
“So, how long have you been sleeping with him?”
“For years. He can’t leave me. I’m sexy and I gave him a beautiful baby girl. You’re just one of his many distractions when we have problems but he always comes back to me.” She said arrogantly.
I was too stunned to even reply. I was startled by the sound of the door opening. Victor walked in and instantly noticed my deathly stare. He then looked at his phone which was no longer on the charger and knew exactly what was about to happen. I didn’t even bother hanging up the phone before unleashing my wrath on him.
“You basic idiot!! So you’ve been cheating on me with your baby mama of all people?!” I asked.
“What?”
“Don’t try to play dumb. I saw the pictures on the phone and she confirmed it.”
“Who?”
“Your baby mama. Daisy!”
When I mentioned her name, he changed his tone and knew that I wasn’t bluffing. He also didn’t bother denying it.
Victor was honestly the last person I expected to cheat on me. He had played the good guy role so well and even when we had problems in our relationship, he didn’t seem interested in anyone else. Little did I know that he was a serial cheater and was sleeping with his baby mama. I packed my things the same day and left soon after that without as much as a goodbye. He tried to apologize and sent me gifts on several occasions but I was too humiliated and hurt by the betrayal to take him back.
