Peaches, also known as Persian apples, are part of the stone fruit family. Like plums, nectarines, apricots, and cherries, their meat is surrounded by a shell containing an edible seed. Peaches are known to be soft and sweet, but aside from that, they also offer a variety of health benefits.

Let’s take a look at why you need to consider adding them to your daily diet.

Benefits Of Peaches

1. Good for the eyes

Peaches are rich in Vitamin A, which helps to ensure clear vision. Lack of vitamin A is known to cause night blindness. They also contain lutein and zeaxanthin, which help to protect the eyes from eye disorders such as cataracts and macular degeneration.  6 Health Benefits Of Vitamin A And Food Sources

2. Promote A Healthy Smile

It is often said that sugary foods are bad for your teeth but not in this case. Peaches may be sweet, but they help to maintain healthy teeth due to their fluoride content. Fluoride, also a central component in toothpaste, prevents cavities by strengthening the enamel of the teeth.

3. Anti-inflammatory and Anti-cancer properties

Peaches contain antioxidants such as polyphenols and carotenoids that protect your body against illnesses. They also contain caffeic acid, a compound that prevents breast and colon cancer by reducing the growth of cancer cells. Additionally, peaches are filled with micronutrients and live bacteria that reduce inflammation. Therefore, consuming them regularly can reduce the risk of dealing with chronic diseases while also preventing skin inflammations like allergies.

4. Smooth Skin

Peaches contain beta carotene, which combines with vitamin C to ensure healthy skin. Beta carotene protects your skin from sun damage, while vitamin C builds collagen and improves skin texture. Fresh peaches are also full of water which helps to keep your skin hydrated.  Lifestyle: The Health Benefits Of Vitamin C And Food Sources

5. Promote Healthy Bones

Human beings require about 4,700 milligrams of potassium daily. Instead of opting for supplements, you can add peaches to your diet. Potassium not only prevents kidney stones and lowers blood pressure, but it also benefits the bones. It helps reduce calcium loss from the bones, thereby building and maintaining strong bones.

6. Aid in Digestion

Peaches are rich in fibre which plays a massive role in the body. Foods rich in fibre help to prevent constipation and haemorrhoids. They also support gut health, manage blood sugar levels and help to cleanse your kidneys and the bladder.

7. Help to Maintain a Healthy Weight

The fibre content present in peaches also plays a role in weight loss. Consuming 30 grams of fibre daily can help you lose weight in a significant way. Fibre regulates cholesterol and blood sugar levels. It also helps you stay full for a more extended period, reducing the urge to snack, which adds weight.  Health And Nutrition: Foods To Improve And Lower Cholesterol Levels

8. Good Source of Vitamin E

Like nuts and seeds, peaches are also a good source of vitamin E, which ensures strong immunity and healthy skin and eyes.  Health: The Benefits Of Vitamin E, Myths And Precautions

How to Add Peaches to Your Daily Diet

The first thing to remember before adding peaches to your diet is to pick the right kind. Peaches that smell sweet are the ripest and have the most flavour. They are also high in antioxidants. However, if you find peaches that have little or no aroma and are firm, you can pick a few and let them ripen for a few days.

Once you have your peaches, you can decide the best way to add them to your diet. Luckily there are a variety of options. You can choose to:

  • Add freshly sliced pieces to your salad or yoghurt if you want a sweet treat.
  • Blend a few slices into a smoothie.
  • Serve them with ice cream.
  • Add a few slices to your preferred pie recipe.
  • Slice a few pieces and enjoy as a fruit.
