Dealing with a cold or flu is very overwhelming. You feel tired, uncomfortable, and unproductive, especially during the first few days. The hard part is usually trying your best not to infect others as you try out different remedies to help you feel better. If you grew up in an African home, these remedies often included chicken soup or a cup of tea or the potent ginger, lemon, and honey combo.

The tea that was mainly served as regular milk tea helped since fluids are often the best. However, it didn’t quite soothe most of the symptoms. Let’s take a look at some of the teas you can add to your natural remedy list that help you feel better and boost your immunity.

1. Green Tea

Green tea has numerous health benefits that support the body when dealing with infections. It contains powerful antiviral and antioxidant qualities which deal with bacteria. It also relieves congestion and cough.  11 Health Benefits Of Green Tea

2. Ginger Tea

Ginger tea is considered one of the best remedies for colds or flu. It contains microorganisms that fight off infections, and it also has anti-inflammatory agents. A cup of warm ginger tea can also go a long way in soothing your sore throat or nausea. In addition to fighting colds, ginger tea also comes in handy in treating cardiovascular diseases.   Health:  5 Benefits Of Ginger

3. Lemon Tea

The powerful lemon, ginger, and honey remedy has been used for years for a good reason. Lemons contain a healthy dose of vitamin C, which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. These properties help to relieve congestion in the chest. Mixed with honey and ginger lemon tea can also help to soothe a sore throat, reduce your cough and help you sleep better.

6. Elderberry Tea

Elderberries are filled with more antioxidants than most dark berries. Studies show that elderberry extracts help to reduce the severity of cold and flu symptoms. They also reduce the duration of the symptoms. Elderberry tea can also help treat cold sores often triggered by the common cold.

7. Hibiscus Tea

Hibiscus also referred to as roselle, is a red herbal tea that is packed with vitamin C and Iron. These two qualities help your immune system in fighting bacteria. The tea also contains anti-cancer and antioxidants. Herbal tea is known to be bitter; however, that is not the case with this tea. Hibiscus tea has a naturally sweet flavour, like cranberry.   Health And Nutritional Benefits Of Hibiscus
