Lucy and Patrick understood what Mary J Blige meant when she said the chemistry was crazy from the get-go. They had felt the sparks from their interaction on that fateful night. Patrick had accompanied his friend Joe to the club where he was meeting his girlfriend. Joe’s girlfriend was with Lucy, and she introduced her to Patrick. They bonded enough on that night that they planned to go on a road trip as a group the following day.
Although they had just known each other for one night, it felt like they had been friends for a lifetime. They were both single, so nothing was holding them back. Furthermore, some say that travelling on a long journey with someone can reveal your compatibility and the road trip was a perfect start to their relationship.
They had similar tastes in music, loved outdoor excursions, enjoyed partying, and they could talk for hours on end. It had been a long time since Patrick had felt that kind of connection with any girl. He decided to give the relationship a real shot. He treated Lucy like the queen he thought she was. Caught up in the wave of emotion, he missed some red flags, but his friends didn’t.
Lucy was possessive and would often complain about Patrick hanging out with other people if she wasn’t present. It was cute at first when they started dating, but it soon appeared that Patrick couldn’t go anywhere except for work. Patrick’s friends commented on the matter, but Patrick decided it would be better to avoid having conflicts with Lucy, so he slowly reduced contact with his friends. His friends couldn’t believe Patrick’s distance but advising a person in love is futile.
Possessiveness wasn’t Lucy’s only flaw; she also needed constant attention. The relationship progressed, and they spent more time at Patrick’s house. It seemed as though Lucy had moved in because she spent more time at his place than at hers. Even when Patrick was away from work, Lucy stayed around. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed making meals for them. Patrick loved that about her.
However, Patrick also enjoyed reading and working on other projects in silence. Lucy would easily get bored and feel neglected whenever Patrick required his silence. It would soon be clear to them that the differences in their personalities didn’t work while indoors, but they couldn’t spend all their time outdoors.
Patrick’s work got more time-consuming, and he had to focus on that more. Lucy, who was a beautiful girl, craved more attention. Patrick couldn’t give it to her, so she got it elsewhere. With Patrick at work, it was easy for Lucy to have an affair without getting caught. She wasn’t caught for a few weeks until Patrick suspected something wasn’t right. Normally, Lucy would have complained about his work schedule, but she hardly mentioned anything. However, he also hoped that she had finally understood the nature of his job.
Patrick took a few leave days to spend with his girl because he missed her.
“Babe, I’m thinking of taking a couple of leave days to take you on vacation. I know my work has been a bit hectic over the past couple of weeks and I want us to reconnect,” said Patrick.
“Oh really? Where do you have in mind?” Lucy asked.
“I’m thinking of Zanzibar,” Patrick responded.
“That’s amazing babe, when do we leave?” An excited Lucy asked.
They made plans and went to Zanzibar. When Patrick gave Lucy more attention, she ghosted the guy she was having an affair with, and he didn’t take it well. He kept on texting and calling her, but Lucy ignored him. She put her phone on silent which was strange. Patrick noticed she was distracted, but she denied it. As fate would have it, Lucy left her phone charging, and Patrick saw a call come in and a message from the same number. The sender pleaded with her to pick up or text her because he missed her.
That opened Pandora’s Box. Patrick couldn’t resist digging deeper; that was how he discovered the affair. Lucy didn’t deny it but blamed it on Patrick’s absence.
“Lucy, will you cheat on me every time my work gets hectic?” Patrick asked.
“It’s not like that babe, I just felt lonely.”
“What about the next time you feel lonely?”
That ended their vacation and relationship. Later Patrick would find out that Lucy had brought the guy she was cheating with to his apartment. He got more infuriated. He told Lucy to get all her belongings from his house and asked for his spare key. Although Lucy obliged, she was determined to win him back. She texted and called him consistently despite Patrick ignoring her.
When Patrick stopped picking up her calls, she decided to go to his place. She rang the doorbell.
“What are you doing here?” Patrick asked.
“Babe, I’m so sorry. Please take me back,” Lucy cried.
“We’ve been through this, kindly leave,” said Patrick as he closed the door.
Lucy started shouting and crying, asking him to open the door and forgive her. She was loud enough to get the attention of a few neighbours. Patrick had to go back outside to deal with the situation. Eventually, she agreed to leave. A couple of days later, she came back at around five in the morning, and it was evident that she was drunk. She rang the doorbell incessantly while calling out to Patrick and asking him to let her in. Angrily, Patrick let her into the house because a neighbor came out to check what the commotion was about.
Later that day, Patrick received complaints from his neighbours on their Whatsapp group, telling him he needed to handle his business because some of them had children and didn’t appreciate the constant drama. This only fuelled his anger towards Lucy.
“Leave me alone Lucy and stop showing up at my house,” Patrick told Lucy.
“Babe, I’m not giving up on us,” Lucy told him.
“Why don’t you go back to that other guy? I am done with you!”
“Babe, I’ll make it up to you. I only want you, he was a mistake,” Lucy pleaded.
“I’ll be forced to take drastic measures. Don’t come back Lucy.”
Lucy left but wasn’t out of the fight yet. A couple of days later, she came back. Patrick wasn’t home yet. She had carried his favourite meals and let herself into the house. When Patrick came home, he found her there.
“Lucy, how did you get inside my house?”
“I used a spare key,” Lucy said confidently.
“But I asked for my key back,” said a confused Patrick.
“I-I made you your favourite dish,” said Lucy, desperately trying to change the subject.
Patrick’s anger was palpable. “Did you make a copy of the spare key?”
“You left me with no other choice,” said Lucy.
“No choice? How many times do I have to tell you that we’re done?” Patrick asked as he opened the door.
“Babe, I know I messed up but we’re so good together. Let me remind you how good it was.”
“Lucy, I’m pretty sure entering someone’s house like that is illegal. This is crazy. How many other key copies do you have? What will you do next? I can’t deal with this drama, get out and don’t you ever come back. I’m getting a restraining order,” said Patrick angrily.
“Okay, I’m leaving for now since you’re too upset.”
Patrick was so furious with how the breakup was unfolding. He got a restraining order the following day, changed his locks, and asked the watchman to watch out for Lucy. Further complaints from his neighbours only agitated him more. Lucy finally got the message after the drastic measures, but it took her a while to stop contacting him. She, however, didn’t go to his apartment again.
