Thyme is an evergreen herb often recognised as a spice for culinary dishes. However, this herb is more than just a tasty ingredient. Thyme holds medicinal value; it contains anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that help to deal with different health-related issues.

You can choose to use thyme as a spice for your food or opt to use the essential oil, which also has beneficial value to your health and skin. Here are reasons why the herb and oil are good for your body.

1. Deals with Respiratory Issues

Thyme has been used for many years to treat different respiratory issues. It alleviates coughing and other symptoms of acute bronchitis. Anytime you experience a cough, or sore throat, make some thyme tea to help relieve the symptoms.

4. Relieves Headaches

Thyme oil’s anti-inflammatory properties help relieve headaches and migraines and reduce stress. Using a clean finger apply a bit of oil on your forehead and temples, then gently massage the oil into the skin. Sit still until you feel better. Alternatively, add a few drops of oil to your diffuser or bedding.

5. Heals Wounds

Thyme oil is the best home remedy for wounds and burns. It not only stops the bleeding, but it can also protect your skin from bacterial infections. You can mix the oil with water or use it with a carrier oil. Apply the mixture to the affected area using a piece of cotton.

6. Promotes Hair Growth

Thyme tea works best as a hair rinse if you struggle with dandruff, while the oil works as a good moisturizer. Frequently using the oil can help your hair to grow strong and healthy. You can add a few drops of oil to your hair moisturizer or mix thyme oil with a carrier oil like jojoba or almond.  Hair Care: Simple Home Remedies For Dandruff

7. Good for Your Skin

Thyme oil is a good home remedy for acne; its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties work together to treat and prevent acne spots. It also comes in handy when dealing with other skin conditions like eczema and wrinkles. Beauty: How To Take Care Of Acne Prone Skin

8. Helps to Treat Dyspraxia

Dyspraxia, which is also known as developmental coordination disorder, is a neurological disorder that affects movement. Studies show that thyme works well in improving symptoms of the disorder, especially in children.

Side Effects

Thyme is safe to use if you use it in small amounts. Overconsuming the herb can lead to stomach upsets, dizziness and headaches. Unlike other essential oils, Thyme oil is safe to consume, but you should also use it in small quantities. If you are pregnant or have high blood pressure, you should consult a doctor before using the oil. To test whether you are allergic to it, it is also essential to do a patch test on your skin before applying thyme oil.
