Unlike most oils, aloe vera oil is made by mixing aloe vera gel with carrier oil. The most recommended carrier oil is coconut oil; however, you can also choose to use other carrier oils like olive oil and almond oil. Aloe vera, as a plant, contains many nutrients like vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Let’s take a deeper look into some of the benefits of using aloe vera oil.

1. Deals with Acne and Sunspots

Aloe vera oil contains aloesin which interferes with the production of melanin, making it a good remedy for hyperpigmentation and dark spots. It reduces damage caused by UV rays and makes your skin brighter. Aloe vera oil is the best for dealing with acne when mixed with tea tree oil. The mixture opens up clogged pores and suppresses the growth of bacteria that causes acne.

2. Good for Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are lines that form on the skin due to losing/gaining weight quickly, weightlifting or pregnancy. Usually, there is no known method to prevent stretch marks. However, a mixture of aloe vera and almond oil prevents them from spreading. The mixture also works to soothe any itching or redness you may experience.  7 Home Remedies For Stretch Marks

3. Anti-ageing and Hydrating Properties

Aloe vera oil contains mucopolysaccharides that help retain your skin’s moisture. It also stimulates the production of collagen and elastin fibres, preventing ageing factors like fine lines and wrinkles. Regularly using the oil makes your skin more elastic, softer and younger.   How To Restore Collagen To Your Skin Naturally

4. Boosts Hair Growth

Over the years, aloe vera has been a hair repair remedy. When mixed with coconut oil, it nourishes the scalp and hair strands to prevent hair breakage and split ends. Its anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties also reduce the risk of yeast infections on the scalp. Additionally, it reduces excess sebum and maintains oil balance, ensuring your hair remains itch-free and thrives.

5. Mosquito Repellant

When mixed with olive oil, aloe vera oil can help reduce mosquito bites and your risk of contracting malaria. This mixture also comes in handy in preventing parasitic diseases. Apply the mixture every night before you sleep for a good night’s rest.

6. Relieves Pain Caused by Inflammation

The anti-inflammatory properties contained in aloe vera oil help to soothe joint pain, swelling caused by injuries and muscle strain. You can mix the oil with turmeric and honey and apply it to the inflamed area or use the oil to massage the area experiencing pain.

7. Promotes Good Dental Hygiene

Both aloe vera oil and coconut oil are considered suitable for dental health. They help to deal with cases of toothaches, gingivitis and plaque. You can gargle the mixture or massage the oil on the gums for 5 minutes to relieve pain.

8. Heals Wounds

Deep wounds sometimes take a long time to heal, preventing you from going about your daily activities. However, aloe vera oil can help speed up the healing process. Once you have disinfected the wound and it has stopped bleeding, apply the oil using a cotton ball.

9. Treats Fungal Infections

Aloe vera oil has anti-fungal properties that help to deal with fungal diseases like athlete’s foot, ringworm and dandruff. You can mix aloe vera gel with almond oil for the best results since they both have anti-fungal properties.   Health: Home Remedies For Athlete’s Foot

10. Aromatherapy

There’s nothing that soothes the body and mind like a good massage. Aloe vera has astringent properties that help to repair damaged skin and relax the muscles. You can add the essential oil of your choice for the best results.   6 Benefits Of Deep Tissue Massage

11. Natural Deodorant

Aloe vera oil can also work as an excellent homemade deodorant. It controls sweat, and you can add a few drops of essential oils to the mixture to achieve a great scent.

How to Make Aloe Vera Oil

You can choose to buy Aloe vera oil or make your own at home. The best part about making your own is that it’s easy.

Ingredients

  • Aloe vera plant
  • Coconut oil (this is the most recommended; however, you can choose any other carrier oil)

There are two methods you could use to make aloe vera oil. The first involves heating while the second does not, and the first method is best if you want to use the oil immediately.

Heating Method

Process

  • Take the aloe vera plant and cut off the sharp thorns.
  • Cut the aloe vera leaf into cubes.
  • Add the cubes to a blender and blend until it turns into a smooth paste.
  • Add the paste to a saucepan and pour two or three spoons of coconut oil, depending on the amount of aloe vera oil you need.
  • Boil the mixture on medium heat for 10-15 minutes while stirring occasionally.
  • Once the mixture has turned brown, let it cool and then sieve the mixture to separate the oil from the residue.
  • Store it in a bottle.

Non-Heating Method

Process

  • Like the first method, cut the leaves into cubes and place them in a jar.
  • Add coconut oil to the mixture and stir.
  • Close the jar and store it in a cool, dry place for two months.
  • Once the two months are up, your mixture will be ready for use.

Safety Measures

Aloe vera oil is safe to use, although it is important to check if the carrier or essential oil you choose works well with your body. Always do a patch test by applying a small amount on your skin and letting it sit for 24 hours. If you do not experience any side effects, the oil is safe. You can also consult with a health specialist if certain oils are safe for you to use.
