One of the most popular dairy products is cheese. Its taste is intriguing! Needless to say, it makes the most of the world’s most exclusive cuisines hence liked by many consumers as a gamechanger to dishes.

The delicious ingredients that precede the different types of cheese create a heavenly experience. Its flavour is lovable and its goodness is irresistible. Cheesy dishes are mouthwatering given their exquisite appearance and taste. There are different types of cheese uniquely possessing this peculiar taste that enhances their use. The following are seven of the selected types of cheese:

1. Feta

Preparing meal salads has never been fun without being accompanied by the taste of cheese. Feta cheese has this salty nature that blends perfectly with all the ingredients of making a salad. The type derives its origin from milk obtained exclusively from goats and sheep. It has this fine creamy texture of ancient Greek origin. Usually, it is used both on domestic dishes and for commercial purposes. You can enjoy it with or in:

  • Olives
  • Nuts
  • Roasted chicken
  • Pizza
  • Sandwiches
  • Potatoes
  • Salads
  • Fruits
  • Sparkling rose
  • Sauvignon Blanc

2. Cottage Cheese

This is certainly the most common type. It derives its origin from India where it was anciently developed and used to date. The technique of making cottage cheese involves curding of full cream milk and complete dehydration of the creamy substance.

It is delicately soft and nutritiously rich in minerals and other significant components making it a unique type. Additionally, its mildly sweet flavour makes it ideal for a myriad of dishes such as:

  • Pancakes
  • Cheesecakes
  • Waffles
  • Casseroles
  • Lasagna
  • Chardonnay
  • Pinot Noir

3. Parmesan

This is the single variant type that is popular in Europe and other parts of the Far East. Also known as Parmigiano Reggiano, parmesan derives its origin from Northern Italy thus its name. It possesses a unique granular hard texture that gives it a designated character.

It was previously accorded a POD status hence patenting it from being produced anywhere else in the world. Produced from cow milk, Parmesan has a strong flavour that is best for baked dishes and salads. It goes well with or in:

  • Fries
  • Roasted broccoli
  • Parmesan chicken
  • Pasta
  • Tomato sauces
  • Salads
  • Sauvignon Blanc

4. Mozzarella

It holds a reputation for being the most common and popular cheese globally. It derives its origin from Southern Italy where they produced it from buffalo milk. However, Mozzarella can also be manufactured from cow and sheep milk and still obtain similar nutritional value as those derived from buffalo milk. It has a unique set soft texture, unlike other types. 7 Health Benefits Of Mozzarella Cheese

Its mild flavour can prepare baking dishes. In its fresh form, it is great for preparing sandwiches and salads. Moreover, it wields a taste that could be essential as an additive in commercial cakes and local cuisines. Some of the foods that taste delicious with Mozzarella include:

  • Pizza
  • Spaghetti and meatballs
  • Sandwiches
  • Ratatouille
  • Sweet corn salad
  • White wine
  • Cabernet Sauvignon

5. Gouda Cheese

This type is less common but possesses a unique great taste that gives it lasting relevance. Usually, Gouda cheese pairs well with wines and the dishes that comprise casserole foods. It is named after a city in Holland, Europe called Gouda City hence its origin.

This type is less common and thus prides itself on a unique taste. The tasty creamy flavour comes from cow milk that is cholesterol-free and devoid of oils. The quality of Gouda varies from one category to another. It is the only category that has varied subcategories with different textures. Moreover, it mostly comes with a pale surface thus giving it a unique identity. The specific use usually involves preparing foods such as:

  • Grilled sandwiches
  • Salads
  • Soup
  • Fruits
  • Crackers
  • Casserole
  • Beer
  • Orange juice
  • Sparkling water

6. Cheddar Cheese

This is a relatively hard type of cheese that’s packed with flavour. It traces its origin to Cheddar village in England where farmers used to cool milk during hot days. Today, cheddar is the most widely eaten type of cheese.

Cheddar varieties differ from each other in taste and texture depending on the age, coating and pasteurization. Nonetheless, they all have a sharp, savoury taste that’s popular among cheese lovers. Cheddar cheese can be used as an ingredient, pairing or topping in:

  • Sandwiches
  • Pies
  • Bread
  • Crackers
  • Pizza
  • Pasta dishes
  • Cabernet Sauvignon wines

7. Brie

Brie was originally made from unpasteurized, farm-produced Brie De Meaux in France. However, today it’s made in factories from pasteurized milk. It’s a soft cheese with a white rind and a smooth interior.

The flavour of brie is mellow with hints of mushrooms, sauteed butter and nuts. Thanks to its bright, white exterior and mild flavour, Brie is thought of as a complementary dish, unlike other cheeses. It can be used as a pairing, topping or ingredient in:

  • Pastry dishes
  • Casserole
  • Apples
  • Grilled sandwiches
  • Bread
  • Chardonnay
  • Champagne or sparkling wine
  • Red wine
