Being pregnant has its ups and downs. One of the downsides is getting pregnancy acne. While some enjoy pregnancy glow, others are not as lucky as they struggle with acne. Pregnancy acne is actually quite common among many women, especially during the first and second trimesters. It’s normally caused by an increase in a hormone called androgens that, in turn, boost sebum production in the skin. The good thing is that it’s easy to get rid of pregnancy acne. Here are some natural remedies that can help.

  1. Honey

Raw honey makes a great cleanser thanks to its natural antibacterial properties. The glucuronic acid converts to hydrogen peroxide once it oxides on the skin. This kills bacteria and helps dry up sebum thus getting rid of acne. Additionally, honey draws out liquid from the pimples and reduces inflammation. This lessens the appearance of acne as well as hastens the fading of acne marks. 8 Benefits Of Honey You Should Know About

How To Use

  • Mix a teaspoon of raw honey with warm water.
  • Spread on your face.
  • Keep it on your face for 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Wash off with warm water or a washcloth.
  1. Coconut Oil

This is a popular remedy for pregnancy acne. Since hormonal imbalance may cause your skin to become extra oily, applying coconut oil can help control the oil on the skin. It unclogs the pores and gets rid of dirt build-up. Additionally, like honey, coconut oil contains antibacterial properties due to its high lauric acid content. This can help fight acne-causing bacteria. However, it’s not the best remedy if you have naturally oily skin. 11 Reasons You Should Be Using Coconut Oil

How To Use

  • Apply on your face every night before bed.
  • Wash it with warm water in the morning.
  1. Turmeric

Turmeric is not just tasty but it’s a great skincare product. Thanks to its natural antiseptic, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, it can be used as a remedy for pregnancy acne. These properties can fight off inflammation in the skin and get rid of dirt buildup. It also protects the skin from damage caused by certain elements such as bacterial and fungal infections. The Many Benefits Of Turmeric

How To Use

  • Mix 1 ½ teaspoons of turmeric powder with 3 teaspoons of plain Greek yoghurt and a drizzle of plain honey.
  • Mix into a smooth paste and apply to your skin.
  • Leave the mask on for about 30 minutes.
  • Rinse with cool water and pat dry.

  1. Citrus Fruit

Pregnancy acne can also result from nutritional deficiencies, particularly, Vitamin C. This vitamin is essential not only for a healthy immune system but also for healthy skin. Therefore, when it’s lacking in the diet, you may notice blemishes and bumps on your skin. Apart from increasing your Vitamin C intake, you can also use citrus fruit extract to relieve acne. Citrus juices such as lemon juice or orange juice contain hydroxy acids which open blocked pores and reduce inflammation. Lifestyle: The Health Benefits Of Vitamin C and Food Sources

How To Use

  • Squeeze the juice of 1 lemon.
  • Apply the extract to your face using a cotton ball.
  • Let it sit for 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Rinse with warm water.
  1. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is one of the best natural remedies for several skin-related issues including pregnancy acne. It has healing and anti-bacterial properties that help treat acne effectively. It also has a soothing effect to help reduce redness and the appearance of acne. Aloe vera is also great in reducing acne scarring. Thanks to a compound known as aloesin, it controls the production of melanin and makes acne scars less noticeable. 5 Benefits Of Aloe Vera Gel

How To Use

  • Cleanse your face with warm water and a gentle cleanser.
  • Scoop out the aloe vera gel from the leaf.
  • Apply to the affected area using an earbud.
  • Leave for 20 to 30 minutes then rinse with warm water.
