We cannot seem to shake this cold weather. Every time we think it is about to be a sunny day, those grey clouds come right back around. The weather not only comes with sicknesses such as the common cold or the flu, but it also comes with a feeling of stalemate which makes us crave a little mood booster. Therefore, while stacking up on vitamins, here are some comfort foods meant to elevate your mood.

Porridge

Porridge is traditionally thought to be one of the best warmers when it’s cold. That may explain why our grandparents and parents are so fond of the meal. Whenever I hear porridge, my mind immediately goes to the childhood story of Goldilocks and The Three Bears. If you are familiar with the story, you will know that the bears were making porridge because it was cold outside and that was what attracted Goldilocks to the house.

Oatmeal

Besides boosting the brain’s performance, oats are said to be good for cold weather as it reduces the dampness of the body. Oats have been shown in scientific studies to favourably alter metabolism and enhance performance. This is important since the body needs extra energy not only to keep you warm but to function as usual. Lifestyle: Healthy Oat Recipes You Should Try

Again, this is an easy recipe and all ingredients are locally available.

There is a reason why potatoes are popular in countries like Russia. Potatoes not only thrive well in cold places but are also a very versatile food. Potatoes are rich in vitamin B6, potassium, copper, and vitamin C among other nutrients that are good for you. They can be made as French fries which we all love, mashed potatoes served with black beans or incorporated in beef stew. Potato chips are also a good movie snack.
