Multiple orgasms sound like a unicorn. However, many adults are capable of achieving multiple orgasms. They’re also not limited to women. Men can get many climaxes within one session. They count whether they happen spaced out or in quick succession.

What makes multiple orgasms possible?

They depend on your anatomy, sexual preferences, and how effective your erogenous zones are. There is no limit to how many orgasms you can get in one session. Men and women can get up to five but according to City Magazine, a woman holds a record for 134 orgasms in one session.

For men, they can have up to five orgasms per session. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean ejaculation. Because of how semen is produced, you can experience an orgasm without ejaculation until you’re fully recovered. An orgasm without ejaculating is known as a dry orgasm. It happens when you’re completely wrung out of fluid but still stimulated.

Many scientists believe that women have more multiple orgasms because they have more nerve endings in their genital area. They also require less recovery time and arousal fluid takes a shorter time to be produced in healthy adult women.

Multiple orgasms also happen in less frequency as you get older. A meta-review of multiple studies mentioned in Healthline shows that 10% of men in their 20s can get multiple orgasms. Only 7% can achieve them over 30. More clinical research is needed to determine why age affects them.

To make them happen, you need to be fully aroused and immersed in your session. The experience needs to be completely relaxing. If you’re stressed or anxious, you won’t be able to enjoy it. They also happen spontaneously. You can’t plan to have multiple orgasms. This will take the joy out of it and increase pressure on your partner to perform. You also need to consider how long it takes to recover between orgasms and the sex positions.

How quickly can you recover between orgasms?

This is known as the olfactory period. It’s the waiting time between two orgasms. However, some women can experience rolling orgasms that continue throughout peak climaxes during a long and intense sexual session. Your olfactory period is determined by your physical health, libido, diet, hydration, and age. For some people, the olfactory period is about twenty minutes. For others, it can take as long as a day.

The best positions to increase the chances of multiple orgasms

An orgasm happens when the pubococcygeus muscles contract rapidly. They’re part of the pelvic floor muscles. Doing Kegel exercises can help you recognise the spasming that happens during an orgasm. Some positions increase the odds of these multiple muscle contractions within one session. Squeezing your pelvic floor muscles can also prolong an orgasm. Men can contract the pubic muscle when the penis is erect or semi-erect. Frequently squeezing and releasing during an orgasm can make it last longer or happen multiple times.

1. Missionary

This is a classic position that ensures stimulation within the vaginal walls. With the right amount of pressure and tempo, your partner below can achieve multiple orgasms. In addition, if the partner on top adds clitoral stimulation, you’re more likely to get multiple climaxes.

2. Sitting

Have your partner sit on a chair then have them penetrate you with your back to their chest. Leaning forward on their knees to stimulate the G-spot. If you sit on your partner while facing them, stimulate or have your partner stimulate your clitoris. This position increases the chances of multiple orgasms because it doesn’t require too much energy and enables you to go for longer.

3. 69

This is a sex position that enables you and your partner to experience oral stimulation in tandem. One partner lies down and the other kneels over with their head against the crotch.

4. Kneeling

This can be done as doggy style but there are also other variations. Rear entry positions add sensation because the partner behind kneels and their pelvis creates impact with the glutes which increases stimulation. Doggy style also has more G-spot stimulation. Another way to ensure more stimulation and more tempo control without exhaustion is having the partner below lie completely flat on their stomach then raise the hips and place a pillow below it.

5.  Woman on top

Having one partner on top who is penetrated increases the chances of multiple orgasms because it allows them to control the pace and where they’re stimulated. The partner below can also add breast, nipple or clitoris stimulation to increase sensations. Leaning backwards and placing your hands on your partner’s legs helps you gyrate to increase stimulation.

Important strategies to remember

Most women require clitoral stimulation to achieve one orgasm. Adding it to foreplay and sex increases the odds of multiple orgasms. Choose a position that allows you to go for longer. If you have a longer olfactory period, you’ll need to use positions that don’t exhaust you too much to enable many orgasms.

Switch it up between positions. You can also add foreplay in between sex. Try to masturbate as you have sex. However, ensure your partner isn’t about to achieve an orgasm before interrupting them. Edging is a different kind of play. It makes the one orgasm more intense but it doesn’t necessarily mean multiple climaxes.

You can use sex toys to increase stimulation. Adding toys to different positions makes it easier to achieve multiple orgasms. For example, if you have sensitive nipples, add clamps that are released at the start of an orgasm to make it last longer or happen repeatedly. Find out your most erogenous zones and incorporate toys in that area. Exciting Ways To Use Sex Toys With A Partner
