As people yearn for love, the only thing that comes to mind is the love life ahead. No one is usually prepared to see a blossoming relationship start withering. However painful, love may wither and fail to reach its fullness of growth. People who were once close and intimate become distant and appear to be strangers to each other. This may ultimately lead to a breakup.
After a breakup, one may want to know how things happened, leading to the sudden end of their love story. When there is no clear reason behind the breakup, then the withering of love may be the cause. Here are reasons that may cause love to wither.
1. Expectations
Most of the time, an individual gets into an intimate relationship with so many expectations. These expectations are usually directed at the new lover. An example of an expectation is that the new boyfriend or girlfriend will come and change their lives or improve things.
Once these expectations are not met, a person becomes disappointed and may stop being interested in going on with the relationship. This is where the love starts withering.
2. Dishonesty
Before dating, conversations revolve around getting to know each other, where the two reveal who they are.
When a person wants to get into a relationship, regardless of the other person’s profile, they will give details that will appear ideal to the potential lover.
This leads to the relationship being built on a foundation of lies. Once a partner sees this, their interest dies, and their love starts to wither.
Honesty in relationships is very important, and love may start to wither when lovers do not communicate honestly.
3. An Ex still in the picture
When one gets into a relationship, there’s a need for that individual to feel safe. Safe in that they are not competing with the ex for this partner’s attention.
Past relationships can affect the current relationships when there are still instances of intrusion from an ex.
When an individual feels that the ex is still in the picture, interest may fade, and the love may wither. Exes are not a problem. They are only a problem when they are still constantly present (if there are children this is a different issue). When they are constantly involved in an individual’s life more than how the current lover is involved, it may bring about trust issues. It may mean that their relationship never really ended.
4. Poor communication
Love thrives in a space where communication is open and frequent. Open in the sense that one communicates their truth with love at all times. This ensures that the interest of both parties is taken care of. First, the communicator’s welfare issues and concerns get brought to the table, so they do not move around with pinching shoes. Secondly, communication is made with love and care, so the other party does not feel disrespected and unwanted. Here is where you speak your truth as frequently as possible.
However, when communication is not open and regular, the blossoming love will lack the nutrients it requires to grow, and that is when it starts withering away.
5. Cheating
After a partner has cheated, things do not remain the same in the relationship. The cheater may make an apology and promise to be a better person and never cheat again. However, the one cheated on will have so much work to do to trust this person again. Sometimes, overcoming the negative feelings of being cheated on becomes too difficult. What follows is that the one cheated on may start growing out of love and see the person they once loved so dearly become a stranger.

6. Incompatibility
Other times, people fall in love and rush into being together. The honeymoon period, filled with all the good times, may mask the incompatibility between two people. Once the honeymoon period ends, the reality checks in, and the two now have to face the reality of their incompatibility. The reality may be harsh at this point, and the two become strangers.
Love is like a plant. It will only grow to its fullness when it is watered and cultivated. It requires honesty and constant work to improve the communication processes and style. When two people who unite through love work together to keep their relationship intact and growing, it may minimise the chances of a breakup. Otherwise, love is bound to wither and die, and a couple will break up.
