Baobab powder is highly nutritious with a wide range of health benefits not to mention a delicious, citrusy taste. It’s high in vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc, and antioxidants. It also has some niacin and B vitamins and is low in sodium, sugar, and calories.

Baobab powder may help manage blood sugar levels as well as aid in weight loss by promoting feelings of satiety. Its high fibre content may promote digestive health.

It also has antimicrobial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties which are beneficial in the promotion of overall health, body healing, and prevention of illnesses linked to inflammation. These nutritional and health benefits are why baobab is considered a superfood and has long been used medicinally.

Here are some interesting ways to use and consume the highly versatile baobab powder.

Breakfast

Add a spoonful of baobab powder to your breakfast bowl of porridge. You can also add it to other breakfast meals including oats, yoghurt, and cereal.

Energy bars

Power bars are a great snack, delivering protein and energy. Add two tablespoons of baobab powder per bar to your standard energy bars ingredients like nuts, seeds, and dried fruit.

Water and popsicles

Add two tablespoons of baobab powder to a glass of water to get that immunity boost from your daily water intake. It can also work well with hot water and lemon. You can also make healthy popsicles if you are craving a sweet, cool treat with no added sugar. Just freeze your water mixture and/or whatever other ingredients you wish to include in your popsicle.

Smoothies

Add some baobab powder to your smoothies for that exotic taste. Its mild, citrusy flavour makes it a great addition to any smoothie, adding great fibre and texture to it. You can also add it to fruit juice and things like coconut water. Blend it into ice creams, and milkshakes for healthy snacks. You can also puree your fruit(s) of choice then jazz it up with some baobab powder.

Sauces and dressings

Baobab powder has natural thickening properties which make it great for thickening sauces. It’s a great gluten-free alternative to flour. Add a tablespoon at a time until you get the desired thickness. Another easy way to include the powder in your diet is to add it to your salad dressings. You can also add it to soups. When cooking with it, add it to the end of the cooking process.

Desserts and baked goods

Add some baobab powder to your baking batter or dough for healthier baked goods with an exotic taste. It works especially well for wholemeal bread which does not typically rise as well as white bread. Also consider adding it to brownies, cakes, cookies, and pancakes.

Baobab powder has other uses outside of eating. It has a variety of beauty uses because of its anti-ageing, cell protection, and regeneration properties of vitamin C in the powder.
