If you have interacted with a beauty guru/ beauty enthusiast, you have probably heard about Korean Sheet Masks. Originally, Korean Sheet Masks were confined to Asia. But more recently, the products have become more popular in other continents, Africa included.
I had been hearing about them for a while but at the time my skin was flourishing with just water and regular soap. I have developed hyper-pigmentation a few years down the line and this is what instigated my need for a proper facial routine. Upon further research, I discovered that if you buy them locally, one sheet mask goes for a good two hundred and fifty shillings. And the worst thing is you can only use them once. I don’t know about you but that sounded like it would cause a big dent in my pocket.
Furthermore, to see the results of most of these beauty products you need consistency. You can’t just buy one face mask and expect immediate results. So once again I pushed the thought away for a while.
Recently, however, a friend of mine was travelling to South Korea and offered to bring me a bunch of them. The specific brand is called Premium Aloe Vera Sheet Mask. I cannot actually explain how excited I was to finally get my hands on the products, and I was not disappointed in the least bit.
Skin Type and Choice of Products
My skin type is normal. Normal skin is well-balanced skin, meaning that the T-zone is oily and the rest of the parts are neither too oily nor too dry. To find out your skin type, you may need to have it checked out by a professional. Physical characteristics include fine pores, good blood circulation, smooth texture and few or no blemishes.
Knowing your skin type is extremely essential. If you use products that are for dry skin on oily skin, you may experience acne. If your skin is normal and you use oily products you may experience a breakout. You have to be extremely careful about that. Check out this article The Best Korean Products For Your Skin Type
For this reason, I chose to go with an Aloe sheet mask that claims to replenish moisture for a refreshed and hydrated complexion.
- Size and Content
The product is essentially a thin piece of paper that is infused with hydrating products. It is important to ensure that your skin does not react badly, as this could lead to other problems in the long run. So in case you try on the mask and feel a slight irritation, it is advised to wash your face thoroughly and discontinue the product immediately.
- Scent
I am a lover of scents, and so this fits my needs just right. It smells leafy and with a hint of mint. However, there are people who react badly to these scents and should, therefore, opt for scent-free products.
- Ingredients
The sheet mask has a variety of ingredients but the main ones are Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Aqua (Water), Glycerine and Butylene Glycol.

Glycerine has numerous benefits that include reducing acne, moisturizing, healing and protecting the skin.
Butenyl Glycol contains humectant properties that are essential in the absorption of nutrients.
- Use
As per the instructions, one is supposed to prepare the skin with toner. A toner restores the pH levels of your skin and therefore prepares it for the absorption of the next products in the routine. After the toner, spread the sheet mask over the face for a period of 15-20 minutes. It is recommended that you do not keep the mask in longer than this because it may end up having a drying effect rather than moisturizing the skin.
- Overall Verdict
The Aloe Sheet Mask is extremely hydrating. It left my skin feeling smooth and supple. Having used it about three times, the blemishes on my left cheek started to disappear. I would definitely invest in this product. However, I’d advise that you use shipping companies to bring in a bunch of them by yourself. It will be cheaper in the long run.
