Honestly, I find bar-tending mesmerizing. I could sit at the counter and watch the bartender do his thing all night. Maybe it’s the shaking and stirring or just their dapper outfits but there’s something really cool about making a beautiful drink that gets you drunk.
Whether you’re pre-drinking or having a house party, here are some easy-to-make cocktails that will make your party pop.
Long Island
This one might be the simplest cocktail but it has an exciting colour and it sure is a party starter. Long Island is an age-old popular cocktail due to its simplicity.
Ingredients: ½ tot Rum, ½ tot vodka, ½ tot tequila, ½ tot gin, 1 tot lime juice, coke.
Preparation: Pour all the ingredients into a glass and give it a good mix.
Black Russian
This is a legendary drink for a legendary night.
Ingredients: 3 tbsp. ground coffee, 250ml dark rum, 1 tbsp. maple syrup (optional), 150ml vodka, 150 ml, ice
Preparation: take 4 tumblers and pour 25 ml of the coffee rum mixture. Mix double cream and vodka in a jug. Take a spoon over the ice and pour the boozy cream so it overflows into the glass. This will help the cream to float over the coffee liqueur. Serve with something to stir.
Baileys Honey Bee
What is a girl’s night without some tea or a great cocktail? The Baileys Honey Bee is best for a girls’ night, chama or a book club. It might sound girly but it serves a mean punch.
Ingredients: 75 ml Baileys, 25ml whiskey (of your choice), 12 ml honey, and ice cubes.
Preparation. Pour Baileys into a cocktail shaker, add whiskey and top with honey. Add ice cubes and shake vigorously until it’s blended. Pour into a glass with ice cubes.
Spicy Paloma
When you have a good bottle of tequila, you make a good cocktail with it. The Spicy Paloma is a tasty, relaxing drink perfect for a cookout with your favourite people. It can also be served as a pitcher
Ingredients: 1 cup sugar & water, 1 Chili pepper, coarse salt, 2 lime wedges, 1 freshly squeezed grapefruit, 2 tots tequila, sparkling water.
Preparation: combine sugar, water and chilli pepper and heat until sugar is dissolved to make spicy syrup. Allow to cool, strain syrup and refrigerate. Fill the glass with ice. Add grapefruit juice, syrup and tequila. Squeeze lime wedge into glass, top with sparkling water and stir. Garnish with a salt rim.
Gin & Tonic
It’s the perfect go-to warm-weather drink. It has a cool and refreshing effect which keeps you going all night.
Ingredients: Gin (preferred amount), tonic water, ice
Preparation: Pour gin and tonic water over ice. Garnish with a lime wedge.
Caribou Martini
I think champagne cocktails are the bad and boujee version of cocktails. They add a classy touch to a party and work well when you’re hosting a more mature group of people such as family or work colleagues.
Recipe: Coffee-flavoured vodka with champagne
Preparation: pour the vodka into a chilled cocktail glass, fill the glass with champagne and stir gently. Garnish with a sugar rim.
Remember to drink responsibly, stay hydrated and enjoy your night.
