At certain points in life like when you finish campus and are looking for a job, finding something to occupy yourself is hard. Transitions can be difficult for all of us, and at some point, we can hurt ourselves physically or emotionally by focusing too much on the situation at hand instead of the possibilities of the future ahead. Periods between situations in life may lead to depression or you may end up being frustrated.

Instead of dwelling on regret or wonder as to what your life should have been or what it could be, you can focus on the now. Here are a few things you can do with your time to pass the time along.

Plan out your future.  Sure you know what job you want to look for, or when you are graduating but that is not the ultimate plan for your life. Getting to work at your dream job is amazing, but is that what you want to do with your life? You can make it your focus of every day to write down the future you want, detailed in every way from how long you will work before you achieve a milestone. This will give you something to look forward to in the future.

Volunteering. Depending on your area of focus, you can look up volunteer places and give your time there. Volunteering helps one acquire skills and values that cannot be acquired while working. It exposes you to different people and different life experiences, opening you up to people’s point of view helps you deal with situations that could arise.

Internships. Free time is best utilized by acquiring experience. For a person who does not have financial obligations, it is advisable to take any form of an internship, paid or unpaid. These opportunities will grow your CV. An attractive CV will be kind to you when you start job hunting. There are various places where you can apply for internships.

Start a blog/ journal. There are so many people walking around with talents to write about different things but they might not know it. Communication is easier when you are not talking to someone else. It can be your safe place. Keeping a record of your daily events will also be helpful when you are assessing your personal growth. A personal blog is also an exciting way to get things off your chest.

Develop and grow your hobbies. Get into the habit of doing the things that make you happy, the things that make your heart race. Hobbies will be helpful in every stage of life, they keep you alive and connect you to who you are as a person.

Network. Thanks to social media, it is easier to keep tabs on developments in your area of expertise. Websites like linkedin.com are very helpful not only for networking but also for job hunting. Looking For A Job? Social Media Can Help You Land That Dream Job

Attend mentorship programs and events. There is a wide range of organizations that offer mentorships and training programs. You can search for events and book a ticket. There are free events. You get to interact with and listen to people who have already ventured into your areas of preference.

Reading. Not many people enjoy reading. For the select few, you could indulge yourself in books you always wanted to read but never really got around to it. It doesn’t even have to be expensive with the wide range free of e-books sites available.

Invest in discovering who you are. The time of your life you are in right now is time for growth so pamper yourself, love yourself, and work towards knowing who you really are. Getting to know yourself is also a job on its own.
