Saying that nobody is perfect would be reiterating a statement that has been said many times. However, knowing this does not make accepting our weaknesses any easier. The same human nature that deems us to be imperfect is the same thing that makes us want to deny our weaknesses. Nobody likes feeling weak or like a failure. The problem is, that running away from your weaknesses does not make them go away. Actually, studies have proven that accepting our weaknesses is what makes us that much stronger.

It allows us to be aware

There is a lot of strength that comes from being aware of who you are. Knowing what you are good at and what you are not, allows you to be a more productive person. Pretending to know it all can only do you more harm than good. Accepting that you are not great at sports, public speaking, dancing etc. also allows you to focus on your strengths. Additionally, acknowledging weakness in a particular area does not mean that you stay away from it, it motivates you to find ways around doing it when you need to. There is more than one way to kill a snake.

Opens you up to growth

While not all weaknesses can be fixed, there are those you can work on. Not acknowledging your weaknesses makes it hard for you to take the opportunity to work on them and get better. Everybody has weaknesses.  The more you become better at something, the more it becomes less of a weakness. Do not allow a weakness that you can fix to have power over you.

Takes off unnecessary pressure

One thing I am sure most of you will agree with me on is that trying to be a perfectionist is extremely exhausting. It is literally pushing yourself to limits that are not humanly possible. Accepting your weaknesses prevents you from trying to shoot for perfection.

Undeniably, there are those among us who look like they are killing it. Like someone gave them a guidebook to living a perfect life before they are born. One thing you would be shocked to realize is that they have really mastered the art of feeding off their strengths or they are good at hiding their weaknesses. Be your own idea of perfection by being the best version you can be even with your weaknesses.

Allows you to inspire others

More often than not, people are more inspired by our struggles rather than our successes. If you are in a position of influence, people will naturally look up to you. Allowing yourself to admit to others that you are not perfect, makes you relatable. By sharing your success, your journey and your weaknesses with them, they come to believe that they too can make their dreams come true no matter who they are or what they do.

However, you need to remember that weaknesses are not an excuse to give up. If you set your mind to something, you are bound to accomplish it no matter your hurdles or weaknesses. Let it motivate you to be better rather than sulk about your imperfections.
