Did you know women can be simps too? Some women tend to be so attracted to men who are way out of their league that they end up bending over backwards to get their attention. I didn’t consider myself a simp nor did I ever think I would be begging for a man’s attention. However, I fell for a man who thought he was God’s gift to women and I ended up doing things I never thought I could. I even planned a whole birthday party for him and it still wasn’t enough.
Ashton was an attractive guy. He was light-skinned, tall and with a slim build. He had a piercing on his left ear and tattoos all over his arms. Needless to say, he didn’t have any trouble getting attention from girls. His only flaw was his arrogance. Ashton was so rude that it was hard for him to keep a girlfriend for long. The only reason I had been close to him for so long was because we were family friends. His mum and my mum were best friends so we had no choice but to stay friends. I also felt like I had a responsibility to make sure he didn’t get in trouble because of his attitude.
Though we were close, Ashton never saw me as anything more than a friend. Even considering us as friends was a stretch. We were simply two people who knew each other.
He never invited me anywhere even though he hosted a party almost every weekend. I had to convince him and sometimes beg to be invited to the parties. I felt so embarrassed every time I had to ask if I could go to one of his parties.
“Hi Ashton,” I said meekly.
“Hi,” he answered plainly.
“I heard you’re hosting a party this weekend.”
“Who told you?”
“David.”
“Yeah. It’s just a small thing.”
“Can I come?”
“I don’t know. It’s just a group of close friends.”
“We’ve been friends for years.”
“Yeah, but we’re not close like that. You can come, though.”
When I showed up, he acted like I didn’t exist.
Despite this humiliation, I was determined to win Ashton’s heart. I believed that we were destined to be together and I wasn’t going to let anything get in the way of that. It’s safe to say I was delusional because Ashton didn’t even have the slightest attraction to me. Still, I believed that if I kept showing up and stayed close to him, he would eventually develop feelings for me.
However, my plan was taking longer than I expected. It had been years and nothing had happened between us. I thought that maybe I wasn’t doing enough even though the girls he dated didn’t do anything other than look beautiful to catch his eye.
Since Ashton loved to party, I thought that it was a good idea to throw him a party. However, it wasn’t just any party. His birthday was coming up and I decided to plan a birthday party for him.
His birthday parties were usually extravagant with an exclusive guest list. I had never been to one but I thought that it was an opportunity to show Ashton my feelings towards him.
“I’m planning a birthday party for you,” I told him.
“Really? What kind of party? My birthday parties are usually like a movie.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t disappoint you.”
“Why are you doing that?”
For the first time, he actually asked about my feelings which made me more optimistic about my plan.
“Nothing. I just wanted to do something special for you.”
“Okay. What about the guest list?”
“You can handle that. I’ll just plan the party.”
For the next two weeks, I spent my time, effort and money planning the perfect birthday party for Ashton. He didn’t even call once to check how I was doing or if I needed help. I was the one who would call to update him and he acted like I was bothering him.
“You don’t have to call me every day. Just plan the party and tell me when everything is ready.” He complained.
“I’ve called you once since I started planning and I just wanted to know which kind of drinks you wanted.”
“You know what I like.” He answered rudely then hung up.
I continued planning the party despite his attitude. After all, I was already used to it and didn’t expect it to stop all of a sudden.
After two weeks, everything was ready. I went to the venue to see the final results and I couldn’t have been happier. Everyone delivered beyond expectations. I knew Ashton would like it. It was better than any party he had ever planned.
“Do you want to see the setup?” I asked over the phone.
“Okay, I’ll be there in a few minutes.”
He took two hours to get to the place but I was too excited to let him ruin the moment.
As I thought, he was impressed. He couldn’t hide his excitement.
“You did good.” He said, trying to sound composed but his huge smile betrayed his true feelings.
“Thanks. It wasn’t easy, though.”
We talked for a little while longer before parting ways. I headed home to take a shower and sleep after the long hours I spent planning the party. At least, I finally got Ashton’s approval or so I thought.
I woke up the following morning feeling refreshed and excited for the party. After breakfast, I went to the venue to confirm everything was still in place and that the caterers had started preparing the food. Everything was good so I headed back home and started getting ready for the party.
By the time I was done, it was around 6 pm. I called Ashton to ask if he was at the party but my calls went unanswered. I assumed that he was busy with his guests so I headed to the venue.
When I got there, I saw a man dressed in a black suit standing at the door. Ashton had informed me that he was getting a security guard so I didn’t think it was unusual. However, he stopped me when I attempted to get in.
“What’s your name?” He asked.
“Judy. I’m the event planner.”
“Your name is not on the list. I can’t let you in.”
“What? I planned this party. Let me call Ashton.”
I called almost thirty times but he didn’t pick up. I stood outside for more than an hour hoping that someone I recognized would pass by.
Finally, David arrived and I explained what happened.
“Let me go and tell Ashton.”
He came back a few minutes later and told me that Ashton hadn’t invited me.
“He said that if you’re not on the list, you can’t come in.”
“Is this a joke? I planned this party.”
“I know but you know how Ashton can be. Let me take you home.” David offered.
That was the day reality finally hit me. I realized that Ashton was never going to be attracted to me no matter what I did. I wasn’t his type. So, I stopped obsessing over him and focused on myself. The funny thing is we’re still friends to this day, even after the whole birthday party ordeal.
