Different skin tones require various makeup products and skills to ensure you get the best look. When selecting the best palette for dark skin, look for brands with the highest range of colour. Many cosmetics companies nowadays now cater to the darkest skin. However, it can still be tricky to select the right products.

1.    Match your foundation to the centre of your face

Due to the different shades of your skin, it’s best to match your foundation to the centre of your face. This helps you highlight and conceal at the same time. Using the centre of your face as a focal point also helps you use less product. Using the lightest foundation shade that matches your undertone and helps create a nice, even base layer. It also helps highlight your contour points along the hairline, parameter, cheekbones, and jawline.

Use the area between the hairline, forehead, and jawline to determine your complexion colour. Take the colour and buff it over the contour and foundation. Dual skin foundations are the best products to blend colours well. 7 Foundation Hacks You Should Know

2.    Use your jawline to test shades

Instead of using your arm to do a swatch test use your jawline. The colour that matches your jawline is the foundation shade that works best for you.

3.    Do colour correction

If you want your face to look even, do colour correction. This avoids splotchy looks. Use a concealer to cover spots. If you have deep purple bags under your eyes, use cinnamon-coloured concealer.

4.    Play with colour

Colours look fabulous on Black skin tones. Warmer and deeper colours are flattering on darker skin tones. You can also try ombre effects using a dark eyeshadow that graduates into a brighter one in the inner corner of your eye.

5.    Layer highlighter

You can create a three-dimensional effect on your skin by layering your product. Use a lighter highlighter on the centre of your face. Using a lighter shade of highlighter creates a luminous effect. Some brands also offer an illuminator that you can use. This gives your face a pop of colour. Dark skin should use golden hues for illuminators. Lighter brown skin should try copper shades. You can neutralise too much shine by powdering your T-zone.

6.    Use fluid blush

Blushes come in powder, cream, or liquid. Darker skin works easiest with fluid blushes. The cheekbones are the best place to apply the blush. You can also put blush in the hollow of your cheeks to frame your face. Plum hues suit completely dark skin, while bronze colours suit lighter skin tones.

7.    Balance the complexion of your lips

Draw the outline of your lips with a matte pencil. Use a pencil that matches the complexion of your lips. With darker lips, use a plum pencil. If you have a small mouth, draw the line outside the lips. If you have wider lips, draw the line inside the line of the lips. Add gloss to create volume and lushness. Try to match or correspond the colour of your lipstick with your blush.

Other tips for dark skin include:

  • Avoid using products with white pigment. It can create a greyish cast.
  • Don’t use matte base products if you have dry skin. Opt for cream or liquid products.
  • Blend the foundation to your neck.

Keep your skin glowing, hydrating and healthy by taking care of it. Adding well-done makeup will amplify your glow. Read
