When one looks back to their childhood, one gets to see things from a whole different view, especially from the perspective of the cost of living. As a child, one gets to enjoy many things from toys to eating different foods without thinking about how much they cost. This Redditor asked a question about something that is expensive that people thought was cheap growing up. The responses were interesting.

When one finally gets to the other side of where they are providing, they then realize that some things were actually very expensive. These Redditors shared their views and one can’t help but realize how parents did their best.

1. Food

The last thing that most children could think of as expensive was food. When hungry, they readily got what to eat. Something that might have painted the picture of food as being something that was easily acquired.

For MelissaCCooley, a Reddit user, it was the thought that all food types cost the same amount of money. They ate spaghetti almost all the time and it never occurred to her that the reason behind this was because other foods did cost more than spaghetti.

5. Tools

Dads seemed to be very stern when it came to how people handled their tools. They asked whether they were returned to their rightful places. One could not help but wonder what was the big deal if they were left just anywhere. This was a Redditor by the name percygreen all the time until he bought his own tools.

7. Eating out as a family

As a child, one would always look forward to the time when the whole family went out to eat. Right now, taking a family to eat out is not as cheap as it might have looked when one was a child.

8. Fast food for a family treat

A time when everyone craves something spicy or a KFCs bucket of chicken may come. Treating a whole family to fast food packages can be quite expensive. The children may never understand how expensive it can be to eat out. The same way you never saw this part of the whole deal when you were a child.

10. Mattresses

When thinking about a family this is one of the costs that add up to a lot. Everything seems expensive right now. Even the mattresses we lay on which we never put much thought into how much they cost, are now among the items one knows are expensive. Let us not even get started on the price of curtains. Curtains cost a small fortune.

The last thing that a child or teenager will think about is how much an item they use costs. Until one becomes an adult and has to buy those things for their house or home.
