Pistachios, like hazelnuts, are a popular ingredient in pastries. People often refer to them as nuts, but on the contrary, they are green, slightly sweet seeds. Like most famous tree nuts, Pistachios are high in healthy fats, protein, and antioxidants. The unique quality about them is that they have a very appealing smell. Let’s examine why they deserve to be a part of your diet.

1. Help in Weight Loss

Pistachios are rich in fibre and proteins that aid in weight loss. The fibres enhance the body’s metabolism and reduce extra weight from your body. Another good thing about these seeds is that they are healthy snacks that keep you full.

2. Lower Cholesterol Levels

Pistachios lower harmful cholesterol levels and increase good cholesterol levels. This helps to reduce the risk of chronic heart disease. Health And Nutrition: Foods To Improve And Lower Cholesterol Levels

3. Good for the Eyes

The nutrients present in pistachios are essential for your health. They contain zeaxanthin and lutein, which are also present in the retina. Consuming an adequate amount can help prevent vision-related issues like cataracts.

4. Anti-inflammatory Properties

Pistachios are rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, which help to combat inflammation. Thereby reducing the chances of heart-related issues.

5. Good for the Hair

Pistachios are rich in biotin, which helps to prevent hair loss and nourishes dry hair. They also contain fatty acids that boost hair growth.

6. Prevent Premature Ageing

Pistachios help to moisturize and nourish the skin as well as increase elasticity. The vitamin E present in the seeds also gets rid of dryness and prevents signs of ageing. Adding them to your diet will help your skin look refreshed and younger. Beauty: Why You Need Vitamin E In Your Skincare Routine

7. Reduce High Blood Pressure

Nuts contain arginine and amino acids which work with the fatty acids to reduce the chances of blood pressure. Health: Foods For Managing High Blood Pressure

Potential Side Effects

Like any other food, pistachios can also cause side effects. Consuming too many of them can lead to high blood pressure. You may experience lightheadedness, blurred vision, confusion, and fainting. Be careful not to consume too many salted pistachios because they may elevate your blood sodium level which might increase your chance of developing various cardiovascular illnesses. They are also high in potassium. Eat in moderation.

Digestion and Bowel Problems

Pistachios are high in calories which means when consumed in large quantities; they produce high amounts of heat. This causes bloating and digestion problems. You can also get irritable bowel movements due to their high fibre content. Dietary fibre spikes can also cause stomach cramps or pain in the abdomen. Weight Gain

Although they are healthy snacks, pistachios can cause excessive weight gain when consumed in large quantities. Ten nuts a day are enough to give you the nutrients your body needs.
