There’s one thing you should never take for granted – a doctor’s advice. When it comes to your health, doctors are the best source of information so you need to pay close attention to what they tell you. Even when it seems like you’ve heard the same thing over and over again, it can never get old. Some things that doctors recommend could potentially save your life or simply help you live a healthier life. Here are some.

  1. Know Your Medical History

Some diseases such as diabetes, heart attacks, and cancer can be hereditary. Therefore, knowing your family medical history could help you lower the risk of developing such illnesses. It’s also helpful in indicating the kind of lifestyle you should live. For instance, if your family has a history of lung cancer, you should avoid smoking and take extra care of your lung health.

  1. Don’t Stop Medication By Yourself

There’s one thing your doctor always says when giving you a prescription. “Take this, then come back for a follow-up.” However, most of us don’t seem to hear the last part because we somehow assume we’re all cured. This isn’t always the case and doctors recommend that you check with your doctor before you stop taking any medication. Most diseases can only be managed not cured. Therefore, if you stop medication prematurely, your body could build resistance to the drugs you are taking or you would need a higher dose because you stopped taking the medication.

Health: 6 Things You Should Know Before Taking Supplements

  1. Close Your Mouth While Sleeping

This simple yet effective tip could help improve the quality of your sleep. Getting a good night’s rest is important for your overall health. However, more people experience insomnia and inadequate sleep due to various factors such as light pollution, stress, and anxiety. However, there could be another reason you struggle to get enough sleep. Doctors suggest that breathing through your mouth increases the sympathetic or ‘fight and flight’ system which makes it more difficult to sleep. So close your mouth while you sleep for better sleep. 1. Question Everything

When you go for a doctor’s appointment, make sure you understand what is going on with you. Don’t feel shy to ask a question and seek clarity for something you don’t understand since it’s your health on the line. In case you have a serious ailment, ask about all the available treatments and their pros and cons. You should also not feel guilty for seeking a second opinion from another doctor in case you’re hesitant about the first. In fact, if you have to get an expensive treatment or operation, you should seek a second opinion.

  1. Take Daily Walks

You’re probably tired of hearing this but you should take a walk daily, even doctors recommend it. Now that many of us are working from home and have limited social interaction, it’s important to have a daily excuse to get out of the house. Getting some air could boost your mental health as it’s a form of stress reliever. It’s also a great way to work out and stay active without breaking a sweat. In fact, medical practitioners recommend that you be active for at least 30 minutes every day to promote good health. 8 Benefits Of Walking

  1. Watch Your Weight But Eat More Fat

Maintaining your weight doesn’t mean that you avoid all fatty food. On the contrary, fats are an essential part of a balanced diet. Our body relies on healthy fats like omega-3 to carry out different functions in the brain. Saturated fats like coconut oil also influence our metabolism. They turn off the stress reactions in our body thus reducing the production of the stress hormone, cortisol, which causes weight gain. 7 Benefits Of Eating Healthy Fats
