No one likes getting razor bumps after shaving. However, it seems inevitable to get them, right? Wrong! You don’t have to deal with razor bumps every time you shave if you do it the right way. Razor bumps are caused by a number of factors such as ingrown hair, dry skin, and blunt razors among others. They irritate the skin making bumps appear. If you want to avoid getting razor bumps, here are some tips you can follow.

  1. Exfoliate Before Shaving

The best way to avoid razor bumps is to exfoliate before shaving. Exfoliating gets rid of dirt and dead skin giving you a clean surface to work on. It also opens up the pores allowing you to shave closer. Therefore, you should have a regular exfoliating skincare routine even when you don’t plan on shaving as it removes the layer of dirt and dead skin that can trap hair below the surface. 7 Benefits Of Exfoliating Your Skin

  1. Shave With The Grain

This simply means you should shave in the direction your hair grows. This causes the least amount of tension thus reducing inflammation to your hair follicles. On the other hand, shaving against the grain can pull on your hair causing irritation. Therefore, it’s safer and more comfortable to shave with the grain even though shaving against the grain gives you a closer shave.

  1. Use A Shaving Cream

Shaving creams aren’t just a fancy product. However, this product is necessary for a clean shave. It lubricates the skin and provides an adequate buffer for your razor. Additionally, it’s worth spending some extra money to buy a good quality shaving cream as opposed to buying a cheaper one. This will give you a better shave with more ease thus saving you from getting razor bumps.

  1. Choose The Right Razor

Again, you should avoid going for cheap shavers especially if you have a lot of body hair. The blades get blunt after a few shaves and may tug on your hair causing irritation. Go for high-quality shavers that have three or more blades as they glide easier on the skin and give a closer shave. It also reduces the number of strokes you make to shave thus avoiding irritating the skin.

  1. Moisturize After Shaving

Aftercare plays a big role in preventing razor bumps. You should rehydrate immediately after shaving. Use a moisturizer such as a coconut oil or shea butter to restore the moisture lost while shaving. You can also use moisturizers that have soothing ingredients such as aloe vera. If you feel irritated, you can also soothe the skin using baby powder. 6 Home Remedies To Get Rid Of Razor Bumps

  1. Stop Shaving The Area

If you experience razor bumps in a certain area even when you shave the right way, then you should stop shaving for a while. Some people have more sensitive skin and shaving doesn’t work for them regardless of how well they shave. Give your skin time to heal then try a method that suits you. However, if you still want to groom yourself, trim above the surface of the skin without going too close to the surface.

  1. Consider Other Hair Removal Procedures

Other hair removal procedures may be significantly more expensive than shaving but they are less likely to cause razor bumps. Procedures like laser hair removal get rid of hair permanently thus preventing hair regrowth. Additionally, this procedure requires little maintenance which reduces irritation to the skin caused by constant shaving.
