Every girl dreams of getting long and healthy nails. With acrylics and stick-ons, it’s never been easier to get whichever length you desire without putting in the time and effort of growing your own. However, if you’ve ever had stick-ons or acrylic nails, you know they leave your natural nails in worse conditions than they were before. So, instead of harming them, why not show them some love? Here are some tips you can follow to grow long and healthy nails without going to the salon.

  1. Use Cuticle Oil

I bet you’ve seen your nail techs using some oil on your nails. This isn’t a magic nail grower but cuticle oil and it should be your second religion if you want long and strong nails. Just like skin, nails crack due to dehydration which leads to breakage. Therefore, you should keep them hydrated to be healthy. Cuticle oil hydrates the cuticle and nail bed ensuring that they grow well from the start. If you find cuticle oil expensive, you can use jojoba oil which works just as well.

5 Benefits Of Jojoba Oil Vs. Coconut Oil

  1. File Them Regularly

Filing your nails not only gives them a desirable shape but also it prevents tears and keeps them strong. Make sure you pick the right nail file. If it’s too rough, then it will make them coarse and prone to breakage. Additionally, if the file is too soft then it won’t make much of a difference. You should also file your nails in one direction. This will give them a more even shape and prevent tears caused by rubbing them back and forth.

  1. Avoid Nail Polish

Some people believe that nail polish adds a layer of protection that helps your nails grow longer and stronger. However, this is up for debate since chemicals only weaken them and polish has lots of chemicals. You can use a clear nail hardener polish if you really want to paint your nails. But it’s better to embrace the natural look and nourish them instead.

  1. Do Not Bite

It’s tempting but biting your nails does more harm than good. It causes uneven layers which eventually leads to breakage. Additionally, this is such an unsanitary habit that can lead to diseases. If you notice that they’re chipping or breaking, cut them with a sharp nail cutter and file them to even out the tips. Here are Five Hacks To Stop Nail Biting

  1. Use Lemon Juice

Lemons are a rich source of Vitamin C which promotes nail growth. Dip a cotton pad in lemon juice and wipe each nail with the pad. Let it dry then moisturize using cuticle oil or jojoba oil. You can also mix a few drops of lemon juice with olive oil and microwave the mixture then apply on your nails and leave them for 30 minutes. You should do this at least twice a week to see results.

  1. Drink Stinging Nettle Tea

Beauty comes from within and our diet affects our physical appearance. Therefore, it’s important to eat foods that have positive impacts on our health and beauty. One of the best herbs for healthy nails is stinging nettle. Since it’s a good source of silica and other minerals, drinking stinging nettle tea daily can have wonderful effects on your nails.
