The hotel industry in Kenya has undoubtedly grown within the last couple of years with new entrants in the hospitality sector. The hospitality company, Accor, owns, manages and franchises hotels, resorts and vacation properties. In Kenya, it is represented by 3 brands: Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, Mövenpick Hotel and Residences and Ibis Styles. By the end of the year, they hope to open two more hotels namely Pullman hotel in Westlands and MGallery in Gigiri.
Movenpick Hotel, Nairobi proudly hosted top government and corporate officials to celebrate the launch of the Accor Live Limitless lifestyle program, as part of the ongoing global celebrations dubbed FestivALL.
“Whether you want to indulge yourself at a wellness centre, sip a delightful drink, savour a delicious meal, head out for a night out or attend a beautifully catered special event; Accor Live Limitless is constantly evolving assortment of ways to play and work, allowing you to live limitlessly.”
The program allows one to earn loyalty points namely classic, silver, gold platinum and diamond which have exclusive benefits to the person who redeems the points.

The event began with a cocktail party that was followed by a short presentation on what Accor Live Limitless is all about. I had the pink gin cocktail, which I must say was just perfect. The alcohol to syrup ratio was extremely palatable. It was neither too bitter nor too sweet. It also had a slightly sour base which put together seemed like the perfect combination. I had the pleasure of interacting with a lot of people from different industries and everyone was extremely friendly.

Once the cocktail party was over, we were directed to the revolving restaurant on the top floor. I had heard about it for years but never had the privilege to visit, and so I was super excited to finally get the chance to. One of the friends I made told us a story of how the last time he was there he left his phone by the window pane and two hours in he realized it was missing. He was frantically looking for it when a waiter notified him that it had probably moved as the restaurant was revolving. I found this hilarious!
When we got to the restaurant, I was so amazed the first few minutes that I took time to sink it all in. The view is out of this world. The lights and the silhouettes of the buildings were just too beautiful. I actually couldn’t believe it.
The waiter served us a glass of dry red wine, and then he welcomed us to dinner. To be honest, the buffet menu was so wide that I didn’t even know where to start. It was so overwhelming, and everything looked super appetizing.
I started at the salad bar and had the Caesar chicken salad together with bloody beetroot. It was really good. In fact, this was solid confirmation that the rest of the food would be just as good.
Next, I moved to the main dishes. I must say that the hotel did an extremely good job with the menu. There was something for everyone. Shepherd’s pie, beef bourguignon, chicken financier, fish tilapia with coconut cream, fried rice, vegetable lasagna and roast leg of lamb.

I really wanted to have a taste of everything because it all looked so good. My favourite has to have been the chicken financiere, which was marinated to the perfect taste. It was soft and easy on the palate, and the seasoning was just right.
I’m not such a big fan of vegetarian food, but the waitress convinced me to try out the vegetable lasagna, and I did not regret it at all. The cheese was amazing. It was really tasty and hard to tell that it had no meat. I definitely enjoyed this dish and would be open to trying it out again and again.
The roast leg of lamb was also surprisingly tantalizing. It had grilled vegetables and herbs, together with salt and sauces. I must say that these vegetables were a perfect accompaniment to this dish.

At the end of the meal, I had to sit for about fifteen minutes for the food to settle, because I had been eyeing the dessert section from the very beginning. The arrangement was actually out of this world, with customized cakes and tarts branded “ALL.”
I had the black forest cake which happens to be one of my favourite cakes. It was soft to taste and had just the correct measure of ingredients. I also tried out their crème Brulee, which according to my friend was too sweet, but I don’t believe there’s anything too sweet. It was warm and soft with the perfect texture. I really enjoyed it.
However, nothing can beat the taste of the strawberry bavaroise. Until today, I still remember my first reaction when I tasted it. I forced my friend to try it out because there was no way I was going to keep this discovery to myself. It was a blend of sweet and sour and had a cookie base. It also had white and black chocolate for garnish and I can say that I was fully satisfied. This dessert was actually the highlight of my meal.

To top the whole experience off, on the same night there were fireworks at the Kenya International Conference Centre (K.I.C.C) and we were able to watch all this from the top. It was the best coincidence, and all in all a heavenly experience. Thank you to the entire Accor team for putting everything together to make a beautiful night and an amazing experience.
