The kitchen can be described as the soul of a home. This is where delicious meals are made for our delight. However, the kitchen can also be a source of stress with all the unpopular activities that go on there like cleaning greasy pots or removing tough stains. These few kitchen hacks will make your work easier in the room that is important in every household. The kitchen hacks range from cleaning to the preparation of dishes.

  1. Cleaning greasy pots

Dirty dishes can be quite a bother. It’s even worse when you have dirty greasy pots. Enjoyed that yummy pan-fried liver but now have to deal with cleaning the greasy pan? You can relax because this easy trick will make your work quite easy.

What you need

  • Hot water depending on the size of your pan
  • Vinegar
  • Baking soda

How to clean

  1. Sprinkle the greasy pan with a good amount of baking soda
  2. Mix the water and the vinegar and then add the combination to the baking soda. The combination of the vinegar and the baking soda will make a fizzing sound similar to that one of a coke soda.
  3. Let the greasy pan soak for at least 20 minutes before trying to scrub.
  4. The combination of hot water, vinegar and baking soda will make scraping of the greasy chunks very easy. You can now wash and rinse your pot.

Alternatively, instead of eating the water before and, you can add the vinegar and baking soda in the pan first then add water and the heat it until it boils. Let it soak for a few minutes then scrape and rinse.

  1. Getting maximum juice out of lemons

If you are trying to make a salad or need lemon juice for making something in the kitchen it can be hard to get all the juice from your lemon. This actually applies for other citrus fruits too such as limes. To get the maximum juice from your citrus fruit, put the fruit in the microwave for about 10-30 seconds. Afterwards, remove the lemon and let it cool for 2-3 minutes then squeeze the lemon. It will be softer and easier to get the juice.

  1. Keeping a glass bowl in place

Holding your bowl in place while mixing ingredients can be a messy and tiresome affair. Chefs recommend placing a damp towel under your bowl. The damp towel should prevent the bowl from sliding around as you work your magic in the kitchen.

  1. Getting rid of fruit flies

Fruit flies in the kitchen can be a menace. You probably enjoy sweet fruits like bananas so you have them in a fruit basket only to find a swarm of pesky fruit flies. This trick should help you get rid of them.

What you need

  • Apple cider
  • Sugar
  • Water
  • Dishwashing soap

Mix average amounts of water and apple cider with a good amount of sugar and then stir.  After stirring the mixture, add liquid dishwashing soap to form a top layer. You can now place the concoction strategically in your kitchen.

  1. Cleaning a chopping board

A chopping board is an essential tool in the kitchen. You use it to cut your meat as well as vegetables so it requires frequent cleaning. Whether it’s a plastic or wooden chopping board, this kitchen hack will help you keep it clean and germ-free.

What you need

  • Lemon
  • Salt

You don’t need to use a freshly cut onion, it could be a leftover piece. Sprinkle salt on the chopping board and then wipe across the board with the lemon piece while squeezing it for any juice. Let it sit for about 5 minutes then you can scrape the board and rinse.
