To live your best life, several things have to come into play. You have to ensure that the life you are living is really the one that you intend to live. Sound decision-making and focus are important. Once you become persistent and consistent in what you want, you can live on your terms and take full control of your life.

Here are 7 ways to live on your own terms.

1. Learn to say ‘No’

To live on your terms, you need to learn how to turn down things and people. Always remember that you cannot live to please everyone. You need to be very clear about what you want in your life and what should be shunned. Never hesitate to turn down even your friends. People might take you off track with your plans if you always say yes.

2. Have timelines to follow

Deciding on where you want to be under a set timeline will help you live your life on your own terms. Always make sure that you are making some kind of progress in your life. The situation you are in at the moment should not really be the same, or less, in five years. Improve on all fronts and be focused on your journey in life. Give yourself deadlines to achieve certain set goals. If you want to own a fully-furnished house in five years, make sure you are committed to having it even before the expiry of that period. This will subconsciously provide a platform on which you live on your own terms. 5 Time Management Hacks For Achieving Your Goals

3. Have a to-do list

To live on your terms, you also need to come up with a list of things you need in your life. From the list, you can then eliminate those that are least important and leave only those that you really need. In this sense, you will be motivated to work hard to make sure that you attain the things you need as per your list. This will set you apart from everyone else. By strictly following it, you set yourself apart and live on your terms.

4. Have multiple income streams

To live on your terms, you also need stable income streams. This will ensure that you are not dependent on other people or an income that is barely enough to sustain you. Having multiple income streams allows you to pay your own bills as well as handling emergencies whenever they arise. 3 Kinds Of Income And Why You Should Have All Of Them

5. Believe in something bigger than yourself

Believing in something bigger is also a way to live on your terms. You need to have something to believe in. This could be your job, religion or your family. Once you have that, you will be able to focus and have a sense of direction in your life.

6. Prioritize saving rather than spending

Saving a percentage of your income keeps you on track as far as living your life is concerned. In this sense, you will be able to live decently in the present as well as securing your future. Spending impulsively is a result of not prioritizing savings. When you spend unnecessarily, you live beyond your means in the present and way below in the future. To live on your terms, you will need to prioritize saving instead of spending. 8 Ways To Fix Your Finances To Avoid Being Broke
