For me noodles are bae. Noodles are a quick, simple meal that leaves you salivating and craving more. For many bachelors and bachelorettes, noodles are a lifesaver on days you don’t have time to cook. It’s safe to say most of us have eaten noodles at least once in our lifetime. What many don’t know is that noodles are a staple in Chinese cuisine and can be cooked in many different ways. Here are some recipes you can try out.
- Shrimp & Vegetable Noodles
More people are embracing seafood and all its deliciousness. Shrimp is one of the tastiest seafood. It’s also easy to prepare. For this recipe, you’ll need ½ kg of shrimp, 1 onion, 3 garlic cloves, 2 carrots, 1-2 green cabbage leaf, 2-3 dry noodles packs, cilantro, lime, soy sauce and salt to taste.
Chop the onion and garlic into small pieces and put in a large pan. Fry for 3 minutes. Chop the cabbage and grate the carrots. Stir fry the veggies for 5 minutes until tender. In a separate pot, boil water or chicken broth, add soy sauce and salt. Put noodles and boil for 5-8 minutes until soft. Add the shrimp and vegetables and continue to stir. Cook until most of the water is absorbed. Remove, add lime juice and garnish with chopped cilantro.
- Chicken Noodle Soup
Chicken noodle soup is a classic dish that many people use to treat the common cold. Apart from that, it’s great comfort food for cold days. Beat the cold weather with this delicious recipe. You’ll need 1 onion, 2 tablespoons of grated ginger, 1 red chilli, skinless and boneless chicken, 2-3 dry noodles packs, soy sauce, vinegar and salt to taste.
Boil water and put noodles then boil for another 5-8 minutes until soft. Drain and separate in two bowls. Fry onion, ginger and chilli in a pot for 3 minutes. Add chicken and stir fry until meat turns brown. Add stock/water then season with salt, vinegar and soy sauce. Bring it to a boil then add cornflour paste to thicken. Once it simmers, add spring onions. Garnish with remaining spring onion.
- Egg Noodles
If you haven’t tried this recipe, then you don’t know what you’re missing. This is one of the most common ways to make the dish thanks to its simplicity and availability of products. Additionally, eggs add a healthier ingredient, not to mention, tastier.
You’ll need 1 onion, garlic paste, 1 green chili, ginger paste, 2 eggs, 2-3 dry noodles packs, chopped cilantro, salt and black pepper to taste. Heat a pan with oil then add garlic and onions. Cook for a minute then add black pepper and salt. Add boiled noodles and break the eggs in the pan. Mix well and cook for 2 minutes. Cover then cook for another 2 minutes. Remove the dish and garnish with cilantro.
- Spicy Noodle Salad Bowl
This dish is perfect for a healthier option in the middle of the week. It takes about 20 minutes to prepare and results in a mouthwatering meal. You’ll need 2 spring onions, 1 crushed garlic clove, 2 carrots, ½ cucumber, 2 dry noodle packs, ¼ kg minced pork, 1 tablespoon honey, soy sauce and salt to taste.
Boil the noodles until soft and leave to soak for about 5 minutes. Heat a frying pan and add the minced pork. Cook for 7 minutes until it starts to brown. Add the garlic and crushed chillies then cook for 1 minute. Afterwards, add the honey and cook until the pork is ready. Mix soy sauce with lime juice for dressing. Toss the noodles with diced carrots, cucumber and spring onions. Serve the noodles with mince. Garnish with spring onions.
