Physical exercise is an important aspect of healthy, wholesome living. It not only helps in weight loss, it also enriches life in many other ways. Hopefully, these reasons will help motivate you to incorporate at least a 15-minute workout in your daily life.
- Energy Booster
Exercise increases your heartbeat which sends the body into a ‘fight or flight’ mode and releases adrenaline. When having a sluggish day, simple workout exercises such as jumping jacks, lunges or squats improve your energy levels. It is recommended to incorporate a 30-minute workout before bed since it helps in having a restful sleep and results in a more energetic day.
- Mood Booster
One of the best stress relievers is a morning or evening jog. First off, working out releases endorphins which is a feel-good hormone. Second, a good run around scenic routes elevates your mood. It is also a good distraction and a quick escape from daily life struggles.
- Tap Into Creativity
All creatives can relate to the feeling of being stuck. It is a creator’s nightmare and happens to all creator’s at least once every week. Sometimes, it lasts for a few hours if you are lucky. However, if you need to complete a task, a few hours can feel like days. People ask me how I deal with writer’s block and I say I do a quick workout. I was not aware there was a science behind it, it simply worked for me. The philosopher and author Henry Thoreau claimed that his thoughts began to flow ‘the moment my legs began to move.’ Studies, however, show that active bodies think deeply. People who exercise at least four times a week outperform those who don’t in creative activities. Therefore, as a creator, it is important to have a daily workout routine.
- Improves Self-confidence
People who struggle with anxiety or mild depression are recommended to work out regularly. Anxiety is different from the normal feeling of anxiousness. People with anxiety worry constantly about everything which also leads to depression. This uncontrollable worrying may be caused by the feeling of inadequacy or helplessness. Working out makes us feel good about ourselves even when the purpose is not to lose weight. It helps in realizing our body’s potential in terms of strength and endurance. It also improves posture. Exercises such as yoga, pilates or Tai Chi are good for both body and mind.
- Look Younger
Who wouldn’t want to remain youthful even in their 60’s? Well, starting a daily workout in your 20s will not only make sure that you remain in good health but also have beautiful skin. A combination of all the benefits of a daily workout results in a youthful look during old age. Working out also reduces the ageing process by turning off the caps at the end of chromosomes that control ageing. As you grow older, blood vessels become less flexible which leads to heart diseases. Stretching exercises help reduce the risk as they increase blood flow.
