According to Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, Director – Financial Services at Safaricom, M-PESA has grown from a simple service allowing people to send money home into a service that gives value to more than 28 million Kenyans. M-PESA has grown because of innovation from staff and partners and most importantly because of being embraced and supported by Kenyans. The promotion is aimed at thanking customers for their support.
M-PESA has been in existence for more than 11 years and in this time, MPESA has grown to 28.6 million customers, 156,000 agents and more than 101,000 Lipa Na M-PESA merchants. More than 40 banks and financial services have also integrated into the service, allowing Kenyans to deposit and withdraw between their bank/SACCO accounts and M-PESA.
