This Friday Yunasi will be performing Live at the Elephant. Yunasi have been on a long hiatus but late last year they released their new song “Mawazo”. This will be a chance to check out their new music as well as watch some of their older, popular music. Here is one of their old songs Usilewe.
Yunasi say they have a Sesube style, which is a mix of Sega Isikuti and Benga. Their music is multicultural as they draw inspiration from all over Kenya. They sing in Luhya, Kisii, Dholuo Kiswahili, English, and French.
You may not have heard of Yellow Light Machine but this event gives you an opportunity to hear them and fall in love with them. Kibali Moreithi describes them this way
“Yellow Light Machine have a sound that is quite unlike anything permeating Kenyan airwaves currently. Eclectic and dreamy sometimes, funky and “ferocious” other times, they marinate genres and come up with a melange that intoxicates, with lyrics reminiscent of passionate poetry. Their multifarious nature means that their music transcends the boundaries that many other bands find themselves confined in.” Check out YLM’s Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/yellow-light-machine
