IBM Research Africa have launched a Pan-African photo competition dubbed “The World Is Our Lab”. The competition runs until January 31st 2013.
The competition has two submission tiers:
a) Main competition for amateur, semiprofessional and professional photographers – They have to register on the photo competition website and submit their photos, which must adhere to certain specifications.
b) Social media competition – Users will be assigned a different task every two weeks to highlight different things in their part of Africa under the hashtag #IBMResearchAfrica. Every week, Mutua Matheka will highlight some of the best photos that have been submitted for the task.
The three categories of the competition are
• African Grand Challenges
• African City Systems
• African Innovation
The prizes for the main competition include:
• A Lenovo T440 laptop with photo-editing software
• An all-expense-paid trip to Nairobi, Kenya to visit IBM Research – Africa and iHub, with accommodation at Hemmingway’s Nairobi.
• A photography workshop with Mutua Matheka – one of Africa’s most exciting young photographers
• A 3-day trip for two people to the beautiful Hemingways Hotel Watamu (special prize for Kenyan winners instead of the trip to Nairobi).
We’re hoping you can join in, or spread the word to others who might be interested.
