Nduta crawls into bed and cries. She cries until she sleeps. She has a nightmare where there are 6 men chasing her, they catch her, drag her into a room and rape her. She wakes up, scared. She looks at her dress at the bottom of the bed. It’s torn, and has blood and other stains.

Nduta is in Standard 8. A friend Ruth suggests that they go to a party. Nduta agrees but when they get to the place, she is not comfortable. There are 6 guys and only 3 girls. Ruth says others are coming. They are given drinks. Nduta sips but doesn’t like the taste. She tells Ruth she wants to go home. When she gets to the door the men head towards her asking her to come back. Sensing danger, she runs out, they chase her, and bring her back. She and her friend Mary are gang raped as Ruth looks at them, a happy look on her face.

Nduta drags herself home, and goes straight to bed. She was a virgin. She thinks about the poison that’s in the house to kill rats. She is seriously considering taking it. She wants to die. There is a knock on the door. She opens and finds a woman with a kind face. She says “My name is Phyllis Mbeke from Fortess of Hope Africa. I was told what happened to you. I am here to take you to hospital.” Nduta starts crying again as Phyllis holds her.

This story is based on true stories of gang rape in Dandora happening now. Here is a link on what’s happening in Dandora. I wrote this story as part of a writer’s challenge to write a story of 25O words. I think I will pick up on this story later. I think awareness needs to be raised on this issue. We should not be quiet while innocent young girls are having their innocence taken away.
