What kind of buyer are you? Do you judge a book by its cover and buy based on the appearance, or do you do your research beforehand? Well, The Ashanti Naturals brand can undoubtedly make you purchase the product because of its presentation and appearance. Personally, I fell into this ‘trap.’ The brand colours are pitch black and gold with inviting fonts and an overall minimalistic design. Just perfect.

Manufacturer’s Claims

The Ashanti Naturals Growth Cream contains Raw Shea and vitamin blends which repair split ends and retains the growth of hair.

Ingredients

This product contains a range of ingredients that blend to form a smooth texture. It contains deionized water as its first listed product, which is devoid of any kind of harsh chemicals and will not have any damaging effect on your hair or scalp.

The Ashanti Naturals Growth Cream also contains glycerin which is a humectant, meaning it can actually pull in moisture from the air, keeping hair hydrated and healthy.

To add to this, it has Isopropyl myristate that provides sheen and lubrication to the hair. This specific property is beneficial in that it gives life to the hair making it presentable. Again, it is less greasy than most oils. The downside to this specific ingredient is that it can be extremely drying to the hair, which makes it brittle.

Another one of its impressive ingredients is Dimethicone which makes the hair appear to be frizz-free and have extra shine. It is also added to many heat protectants as it can help protect the hair from damage that comes from excessive heat.

What’s important to note is that this product contains no parabens or mineral oils, which weigh down the hair, cause build-up on the scalp, and makes the strands stiff and lifeless.

It also has beneficial oils such as Castor Seed Oil, Jojoba Oil, Lavender Oil, Rosemary Oil, Safflower Oil, Wheat germ oil, and peppermint oil. These, together, are moisturizing, nourishing, and can prevent hair loss.

Lastly, its shea butter may repair your hair follicles and promote hair growth. It’s a great product to use on thinning hairlines.

Instructions for use

“Split dry hair into sections, and apply cream from roots to ends evenly. Style as desired.”

I would advise that you use this product on already moisturized hair, seeing as if you use it on dry hair, you will end up with brittle hair which may eventually suffer loss. You may also need to follow up with mid-week moisturizing just to keep your hair soft throughout.

Scent

The product smells heavenly. This is one of the first things that you are drawn to. It contains mango butter which gives it a fruity smell with a hint of mint, a result of its peppermint oil.

If you are not drawn to strong scents, however, I would advise against this product. The scent lingers with you for days, and I’m sure some people would see this as a demerit.

Price

The product retails at 260 Kenyan shillings for 200g.  This is quite affordable and especially for all the good ingredients contained in the product. It’s quite hard to find a product that is good for your hair and at the same time affordable. So when you do, you should stick to it.

The product is available at Super Cosmetics, Best Lady, and most local cosmetic retailers.

Final Verdict

After using this product for a period of three months, I found that it has a drying effect. If you choose to purchase it, you must ensure to thoroughly moisturize your hair before and after you use it. Consider the full Liquid Cream Oil (LCO) method of moisturizing. Because if you don’t, then your hair becomes brittle and falls off, then you will not reap the growth benefits.

Nonetheless, once I discovered the need to supplement it with a moisturizer, I have seen its positive effects especially with hair thickness and subsequent growth. I will definitely be using The Ashanti Naturals Growth Cream again for its affordability, scent, sheen, and hair growth properties.

Pros

  1. Has a pleasant scent.
  2. May lead to hair thickness.
  3. Lovely packaging.

Cons

  1. Has a drying effect on the hair.
