“In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”

-Martin Luther King Jr.

Friends are like the seasoning of life and you need more than just salt to make a sweet life. It’s nearly impossible to have friends who are exactly like you – think like you, talk like you or walk like you. However, these differences are what make friendships real. The most important part about having friends is that you always get along despite your differences. Additionally, you can grow from these different personalities. Here are the types of friends we all need.

  1. The Adventurer

When you’ve been cooped up in the house, you can count on this friend to have great outdoor ideas. They will introduce you to new things like restaurants, art galleries or activities. This also translates to their personal life. They’re the kind of friends who encourage you to take risks. They usually see the advantage of just going for it rather than overthinking it. We definitely need this kind of person in our circle.

  1. The Workout Partner

Working out with a partner helps you stay committed to your goals. It’s even better when that partner is one of your friends. Not only is it easier to make a workout plan that works but also it’s easier to hold each other accountable. Since your friends want the best for you, they will push you to your limits and vice versa.

  1. The Joker

You don’t have to take yourself so seriously all the time. This friend is there to make any situation lively. They pride themselves in being the Trevor Noah of the friend group and can make you laugh from morning to evening. There’s never a dull moment when they’re around. Such friends are a must have as they make life a little easier.

  1. The Long-Time Friend

A friend you can reminisce with about childhood experiences is for keeps. They know your ins and outs including every boyfriend you’ve had since high school or how you’d sneak out of school. They proved their loyalty to you over the years and they’re someone you can depend on. They’re basically your ride-or-die. Five reasons you should keep your childhood friends

  1. The Life Coach

There’s always that one person who gives the best pep talks. You could be talking about shopping and she’ll turn it into a TED talk about how to save money in your 20s. Speaking of TED Talks, check out How TED Talks Became So Popular. However, talking to her recharges and energizes you every time. She has the best advice among your friends and she does it willingly.

  1. The Listener

Sometimes, all you need is someone who’ll just listen. This person knows how to listen without judgment or giving their own two cents. They give you a listening ear and let you rant about your problems. Additionally, they’ll make you feel comfortable ranting to them and they will genuinely care about what you have to say.
