What would you do if you won the lottery today? Buy a new home? Maybe invest in your children’s education or set up a business? Those are some of the most common answers. Many people think winning the lottery would change their lives and their family for the better, but that’s not always the case. Sarah and Ken had different ideas on what to do with lottery winnings.

Sarah had just prepared their kids for school. Ken pretended to be asleep so the kids wouldn’t ask him for the supplies they needed in school. Sarah was angry that she had to find another excuse to give the children.

“Are you the owner of this line?” Asked the caller.
“Yes, I am,” said Ken.
“What’s your name, and how many times have you participated in this game?” Asked the caller.
Ken went on to tell the caller that he had played about ten times. The caller then announced that he had won 2.5 million shillings. Ken screamed like a child and cried. That money was the lifeline that he needed. They talked with the radio representatives and a week or so later, he had his winnings in the bank account that he provided.
After winning, Ken was too overjoyed to fight with Sarah. He bragged about winning and looked ready to provide a better life for himself and his kids. The money was all Ken talked about. Sarah smiled and avoided verbal arguments. An observer wouldn’t have guessed they were always bickering at each other before the win.
Once the money landed in Ken’s account, he sent a considerable amount to Sarah to get things for the house and the kids. He then went out to celebrate at a local pub. His celebrations saw him get home drunk that night. He barely made it to the bedroom, and his adventures made the house reek of brew. He didn’t know something else was happening.
When he woke up Sarah and the kid were gone. At first, he thought they had left to visit somewhere, but the missing suitcases gave him the chills. They hadn’t carried everything but they had left with a significant amount of clothes. He got his phone to call Sarah, and that’s when he saw messages from his bank. Someone had withdrawn money using his phone.
Before he could process the information, he received a text from Sarah informing him that she had left with the kids and taken a considerable amount from the lottery win. She was done with the marriage and used the money to start over with the kids elsewhere. She wasn’t so heartless as to leave him with no money, but she had taken the larger share.
Ken called their extended family to help him get them back, but nothing worked. He spiralled into drinking and used a large chunk of the remaining money on alcohol, women and more gambling. His wife kept away. It seemed like she had been waiting for the right moment to leave him.
