The three sisters, Cathy, Julia, and Clara, embark on another adventure at Pendani cabin. After the events of the last adventure, Oliver, the owner of the cabin and now Julia’s boyfriend, invited them again. What are they up to on this trip? Will any of the remaining sisters find love, too? If you haven’t done so yet, check out The Cabin Chronicles Part 1: Finding Unexpected Love In The Bush
There were no hiccups on their journey to Pendani cabin. The weather was beautiful. It felt like the universe was conspiring to give them a wonderful time in the bush. Julia was also excited at the prospect of spending stolen moments with Oliver, who had already informed her it would be a busy weekend since they had increased the number of cabins at the property.
“We didn’t get lost, and it’s not raining. I am taking that to be a good sign. We’ll have a wonderful time without any drama,” said Cathy to Julia and Clara.
“Don’t jinx it,” Clara told her older sisters.
“I haven’t seen you excited about a trip in forever,” Julia told Cathy, her older sister.
“This place may have rubbed off on me,” Cathy smiled.
They all smiled. They were ready to unplug for the two days they would spend there. This time, big signage announced their arrival at the cabin. They quickly checked in and were escorted to their cabin by a staff member.
“They have a bonfire area now. We should try that after dinner,” Julia suggested.
“Does Oliver know how much you market this place for him?” Cathy teased Julia.
“I mean, what kind of girlfriend would I be if I didn’t? Plus, it’s not hard to market when the product is this good,” Julia winked at them.
After their meal, they found a place in the bonfire area. Soon, two more groups joined them. One group had two couples, while the other was larger. The larger group had two older guys in the company of two younger girls and men. They looked like they belonged to the same family.
There were no restrictions in the area, so anyone could play their music, enjoy their drinks, smoke, and even roast food. The younger crowd from the larger group came prepared with their music and drinks. Although each group had its own bonfire, two distinct groups had formed. The three sisters, Cathy, Julia, and Clara, interacted easily with the smaller group while the larger group remained on their own.
The larger group was louder than the sisters, but it was tolerable initially. As people had more drinks, the situation got dicey.
“Could you lower the volume a bit? We can hardly hear each other talk,” Cathy asked one of the younger girls in the other group.
“Why? We have a right to enjoy the property, too,” replied the young girl.
When they saw Cathy’s facial expression, Julia and Clara sensed the situation was about to escalate. They went to listen in on the conversation. Meanwhile, one of the older guys with the larger group also noticed the drama brewing.
“What’s the matter?” The older guy asked firmly.
“The music is too loud, but the young girl here thinks she has ‘a right’ to enjoy the property however she wishes,” Cathy replied sarcastically.
“Hey, everyone. Let’s all take a step back,” said a familiar voice. It was Oliver. He had just come back in time to catch the unfolding drama.
“But Jeremy, why do I have to turn it down, when they can just move further?” The young girl asked the older guy. He gave her a stern look.
“I’m Oliver, the owner of this place. We all need to accommodate each other,” said Oliver to everyone.
Julia and Clara walked away with Cathy while Jeremy pulled the young girl away. They turned down the volume. Cathy was angry after the incident, so she left the group. As she was walking, undecided on whether to go to the cabin or rejoin the group after a while, she found the chef grilling the last treats of the day.
“Some mutura?” The chef asked her.
“The answer is always yes,” Cathy responded as she stretched out her hand to take a piece.
She had an engaging conversation with the chef as she enjoyed the heat of the grill, and she decided not to rejoin the rest of the group. Eventually, she went to bed, and her sisters joined her later.
The following day, they had to wake up early because they were going on a game drive. Oliver had worked hard at increasing the variety of activities the guests could engage in while staying at the cabin. He took advantage of the property’s proximity to conservancies and national parks. The sisters had tried fishing the previous time, and none of them wanted to go hiking, so they settled on a game drive.
The journey to see the park started with a bit of drama. Jeremy, from the group they had encountered the previous night, was visibly angry.
“We can’t keep the others waiting because some people couldn’t wake up on time. Everyone knew what time this activity would begin. We’re leaving them,” said Jeremy.
The girl who had had a run-in with Cathy started to say something, but one of the younger guys from the group shook his head, indicating it was futile to argue. They had left behind two people. Everyone took their seats in the vehicle, and they left. Most people in the vehicle were asleep on the journey to the park except for Cathy and Jeremy.
Cathy marvelled at the view of the mountain, which got clearer as the sun rose. She didn’t talk to Jeremy or the driver, but she took lots of videos and pictures on her camera. With time, everyone woke up, and there were more conversations.
System failures temporarily halted the excitement of the pending activity as they attempted to pay to gain access to the park. They echoed the sentiments of other citizens who had been complaining about the same system on social media. It took over an hour to make the payment. Cathy had been very vocal during the process, and the rest suspected that the people at the payment office had resolved their issue faster to avoid dealing with her further.
“It helps to have a lawyer in your crew, sometimes,” joked Julia.
“The keyword being ‘sometimes’,” Clara replied. They laughed together with Oliver. Jeremy overheard the conversation.
As they started their journey inside the park, Jeremy finally spoke to Cathy. They were seated next to each other.
“I hear we have you to thank for quickly resolving the payment hiccup,“ said Jeremy.
“Occupational hazard, I guess,“ Cathy replied.
“Always fighting for your rights too?“ Jeremy asked.
“Too soon,“ Cathy told him as she rolled her eyes.
“I’m sorry. You were right to be angry yesterday. My younger cousin’s behaviour wasn’t justified,“ Jeremy told her.
“I take it she’s taking Law studies?“ Cathy asked.
“Yep. That and that she’s the quintessential Gen Z. We have a lesson on rights every so often,“ replied Jeremy.
“You have your work cut out for you,“ Cathy joked.
“I like the challenge occasionally. It’s interesting to pick the minds of the younger generation,“ said Jeremy.
“I get that. I deal with my seven-year-old daily,“ said Cathy.
“A lawyer and a mother, that explains a lot,“ Jeremy remarked with a smile.
“Add firstborn too, and you have the complete picture,“ said Cathy.
“I didn’t hear, wife, if you don’t mind my forwardness,“ said Jeremy.
“Ex-wife, but that’s a long story,“ replied Cathy.
“Ex-husband here, so you’re in good company,“ Jeremy replied.
They spent the rest of the day together. Julia and Clara were surprised and happy. They’d been worried that Cathy had shut out any romantic interests. Seeing her flirting and chatting with Jeremy gave them hope. Once they returned to the cabin, all the guests gathered at the bonfire, and everyone got along. Jeremy even got his younger cousin to apologize to Cathy.
After a conversation, Cathy discovered Jeremy’s cousin was interested in pursuing the same legal specialization as her. Looking past the previous night’s events, she could see the same fire she once possessed. She spent a few more hours with Jeremy before going to bed.
The following day, they walked on the nature trail next to the property before Cathy and her sisters left. She was giddy when they left.
“This cabin is turning out to be Cupid’s helper,“ joked Julia.
“I know! When was the last Cathy was this happy?“ Clara asked.
“Before her wedding?“ Julia replied.
“I want to go with never. I’m not sure I saw her this happy with her ex at any point,“ said Clara.
“Mean but true,“ said Cathy. “It’s just been a day or so, though. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.“
“Also true but sometimes we meet people and it’s like you’ve known each other for a long time,“ said Julia.
“You’re a hopeless romantic, Julia. After a failed marriage, you look for practical companionship,“ said Cathy.
“I know you’ll say it’s too early, but do you think you could have that with Jeremy?“ Julia asked.
“I actually think so. He’s mature, witty and laid back. He saw my quick temper and feistiness and didn’t retreat,“ said Cathy with a smile.
“What’s happening, Julia? Cathy’s complimenting a man. What have they done to our sister?“ Clara said dramatically.
“I think there’s a spell at that cabin,“ said Cathy, blushing.
“If there’s one, it’s worked for Oliver and me, so I hope it works for you. It’s wonderful to see you like this,” said Julia.
“Clara, maybe we should come back and see if the cabin’s good luck works for you too,” joked Cathy.
“I get to spend a good time with my older sisters, that’s enough good luck,” said Clara.
They all burst out laughing. Julia and Cathy remembered how Clara would use such phrases when they were younger to get them to do her favours. They made their journey back home feeling refreshed. Cathy had more reasons to be grateful for the trip and was looking forward to further interactions with Jeremy.
After subsequent interactions with Jeremy, Cathy confirmed her hunch about him was right. He was more amazing than she had imagined. Her divorce had led her to believe that she was unlucky in love but her relationship with Jeremy changed that view.
