The Singlehood Series: I Found Out He Was Cheating On Me With Multiple Women After Checking His Apartment’s Visitors Book

Most men think I’m not looking for a serious relationship because of my looks.

If bad luck was a person, I would be it. I’ve always envied people, especially girls, who could get good partners easily and have the life they dream of. I’ve never been that lucky, even in situations where it should be easy for me to find someone, I don’t. When I do, they always start cheating on me.

I’m so used to guys cheating on me that I no longer feel bad. I just laugh about it and move on. One of my friends thinks it’s because I’m looking for love in the wrong places and encouraged me to try a different dating app where guys were more serious.

“Try Bumble. The men there are mature, loyal and rich.” She said.

My ears perked up when she said loyal and rich. That was exactly my type. I immediately downloaded the app, created a profile and started swiping. The best part about Bumble is that women are the ones who make the first move so I didn’t waste time with guys that didn’t have what I wanted.

After several missed connections, I finally found my match. His name was Henry and he was a Senegalese. I had dated a few foreigners so I knew I would get along with him and sure enough, we hit it off.

“Hi. I like you very much.” He said.

“Thanks,” I replied.

“I want to meet you soon. When are you free?”

“Over the weekend.”

“Okay. I’ll take you on a date on Saturday. Please give me your number.”

He was straight to the point which I liked. I’m not a fan of small talk. I gave him my number and he messaged me so I could save his. The next time we talked was on Saturday day morning.

“Morning, beauty. Do you remember our date?” He asked.

“Morning. Of course, I do. Where do we meet?”

“Let’s meet at Bar Next Door in Kileleshwa.”

“Okay. What time?”

“Around 2 pm.”

“Okay. I’ll let you know when I get there.”

“No problem.”

He sent me Ksh 2,000 for Uber which I didn’t ask for but appreciated either way.

To most men, I come off as a shallow girl who is only after money because of my image. However, I’m very hard working and I take pride in having my own money and supporting my lifestyle. Having a rich boyfriend is only a bonus for me.

I would say that my looks are the biggest reason men keep cheating on me. They assume that I’m not looking for anything serious while in reality, I want a guy I can settle down with. I hoped that Henry was that person who I would finally have a serious relationship with.

I found him waiting for me near the bar area. The date was pretty good and I felt a genuine connection. However, Henry kept asking me to go to his place which I wasn’t ready for.

We planned to meet again a few days later. That time, things were better. He was more interested in getting to know me than taking me to his place.

“I have an online business,” I told him after he asked what I did for a living.

“Really? What kind of business?”

“I sell hair.”

“That’s nice.”

We talked for hours as we downed a bottle of Hennessy that he had ordered. After enjoying our night out, we went back to his place and I spent the night there.

I had a good time but I noticed some things that were suspicious. First, Henry’s bedside table was full of condoms which wasn’t a bad thing but it was suspicious. I can understand having one packet or two but over 10 was a bit suspicious. He also woke me up hurriedly and asked me to leave.

“I have a meeting at 8.” He explained.

He didn’t even give me a chance to make breakfast. However, I still gave him the benefit of the doubt since we had gotten along well and he had told me that he was also looking for a long-term relationship, hopefully one that led to marriage.

I reached out to him a week later to organize another hangout. We hadn’t seen each other for more than a week so I suggested that I go to his place which he happily agreed with.

“You’re welcome anytime.” He answered.

The following day, I made my way to his place early in the morning thinking that he had missed me. Since I wasn’t with him, the security guard asked me to write my name, ID number and the house I was going to.

I opened the book and started writing before noticing that the person who had checked in before me had written the same house number. It was a girl’s name which piqued my curiosity. I checked the names before and they were all women and all were going to Henry’s house.

I couldn’t believe it. Another man was cheating on me. However, it wasn’t the cheating that I struggled with. I was mostly upset because my friend promised me that Bumble men were different and Henry did seem different.

I stood at the gate contemplating whether I should go to his place or turn around and go home. It took me a few minutes to decide but I chose to confront Henry. It was the first time I was going to face someone after finding out they were cheating on me.

Henry opened the door and welcomed me in but I didn’t enter.

“Do you really want a serious relationship?” I asked.

The question caught him by surprise and I could see that he was irritated.

He answered, “Of course, babe. I love you.”

“Then why are different women coming to your place?”

“What do you mean?”

“I’ve seen their names in the visitor’s book so don’t lie to me.”

“Oh.. that’s not a big deal, babe. You’re the one I love.”

Even though I wanted things to work out between me and Henry, there was no way I could look past his cheating. He tried to explain that he will change but I knew very well that once a cheater, always a cheater. So, I ended the relationship and didn’t contact him again.
