As human beings, it is easy to get caught up with work, school, projects or even parenthood. However, it is important to remember that these factors can easily affect your mental health. Taking time to breathe and engage in self-care activities is a good way to ensure that you remain sane. Here are a few interesting activities that you can engage in that are good for your mental well-being.

1. Knitting or Crocheting

Knitting and Crocheting have long been thought of as old people’s activity. However, these days if you scroll through social media, you will find young people also engaging in the craft. The repetitive action of both knitting and crocheting helps to focus the mind just like meditation or yoga. The more you get used to it the more you realize how calm you feel, especially if you often feel stressed or overwhelmed. Engaging in this craft is also a great way to build self-esteem and earn some extra money. The best part is you can either learn from YouTube tutorials or take a class.   The Benefits Of Knitting And Crocheting

2. Karaoke

Every morning when I wake up, I usually set aside one hour just to listen and sing along to my favourite songs. Although it may seem like it doesn’t have an impact, it greatly affects my mood. I usually start the day feeling happy. Singing along to your favourite tunes is a great way to reduce stress. When you sing, your body releases endorphins which helps to improve your mood. So, if you are feeling sad, stressed or burnt out, grab a friend and go for karaoke.

3. Gardening

Have you ever wondered why children always seem so happy when they are playing in the dirt? Studies show that putting your hands in the soil increases serotonin levels which help to regulate our emotions and overall sense of well-being. Some plants have unique qualities that help to calm your body. When choosing to grow plants, the best and most helpful are the ones that are visually appealing and have a soothing smell. Good examples are peppermint, aloe vera, lavender and chamomile. 5 Gardening Mistakes That Are Killing Your Indoor Plants

4. Painting

I don’t know if it’s because I love art, but every time I paint it’s like nothing else in the world matters. Painting allows me to escape from my daily struggles and helps to uplift my mood. I have also noticed this with people who go to Sip and Paint events.

Painting is a beautiful way of dealing with feelings of anger, pain and stress. It helps you to access those feelings and express them through creativity. You get to enter a world of your own as you create, and this allows you to separate yourself from everyday pressure. Painting can also be a good act of self-care and it can build your emotional well-being with time.

5. Colouring

If you are not into the idea of painting, then why not try colouring? Quite recently, I discovered that bookshops sell separate colouring books for adults which is so amazing. Colouring is also a healthy way to relieve stress. It helps to relax the fear centre of your brain and induces the same state as meditation. Colouring can also improve your sleep and fatigue. 6 Reasons Why Colouring Is Good For Everyone, Including Adults

6. Journaling

Writing not only engages the brain but it is also very therapeutic. One of the best parts about journaling is that it is something you can do when you are free and from the comfort of your home. Journaling helps your mental well-being by reducing the need to focus on persistent thoughts.

There are different ways to journal but the key thing to remember is that the method you use is completely up to you. The essence of engaging in journaling is to allow yourself to release your thoughts to paper and free your mind. 6 Reasons Why You Should Consider Keeping A Daily Journal
