Ear infections can be a painful nuisance, especially when they happen repeatedly. There are people who are prone to getting ear infections more than others due to various factors such as allergies, respiratory problems or swimming. Additionally, children are more likely than adults to get ear infections. Ear infections can lead to fever, vomiting, dizziness, and vertigo which can diminish the quality of life. It, therefore, is important to know how to avoid getting one. Here are some ways to prevent ear infections.

  1. Clean Your Diet

Eating a balanced diet is essential for your immunity and overall health. Additionally, there are some nutrients that you should include in your diet to fight ear infections. For instance, taking foods that are rich in probiotics improves your gut health which plays a huge role in your overall health. Onions are natural antibiotics which fight infections in the body. Turmeric has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties which help in the treatment of infections.

  1. Avoid Exposing Your Baby To Cigarette Smoke

Cigarette smoke contains harmful particles that can lead to an infection in your baby’s sensitive ears. This exposes them to ear infections and other serious health issues. So, to avoid putting your baby in danger, make sure no one smokes in places where the baby spends time including the house and car. Additionally, encourage people who spend time around your baby to quit smoking. This will ensure that your baby grows in a healthy environment and that their health will not be compromised due to cigarette smoke.

  1. If You Must Use Clean Ear Buds To Clean Your Ears

It’s tempting to grab the first thing we see to clean our ears or even use our fingers. However, this is only irritating your ears and increases the probability of getting ear infections. If you need to clean your ears, always use a clean earbud. Make sure you store your earbuds in a clean place where they’re not exposed to dust and other contaminants. Additionally, when cleaning your ear, try to be as gentle as possible to avoid bruising the delicate organs inside. DIY Remedies To Remove Excess Ear Wax

  1. Breastfeed Your Baby

Breastfeeding a growing baby supplies them with much-needed antibodies that strengthen their immunity and help them fight illnesses. Babies who are breastfed exclusively for the first 6 months of their life are less likely to be sickly than others. It specifically reduces the chances of developing certain illnesses such as Type 1 Diabetes, respiratory diseases and ear infections. Breastfeeding Hacks For New Mums

  1. Manage Stress

People with frequent ear infections, whether adults or children, should check their stress levels. In many cases, stress can lead to ear infections since it compromises your immunity and your body’s ability to fight off sickness. Therefore, if you or your baby gets frequent ear infections, you should consider doing some stress management techniques such as massages, yoga, meditation and deep breathing. This will not only help you and your baby reduce stress but also it will teach you healthy coping methods during stressful situations.

  1. Avoid Allergens

Another common cause of ear infections is allergic reactions. From pollen to household chemicals, we’re surrounded by toxins and allergens in our daily life. These can trigger an allergic reaction that can, in turn, affect your ears. Unfortunately, it can be hard to avoid them completely. There are some things that you can do to reduce allergic reactions such as taking an antihistamine and wearing a face mask. It’s also advisable to avoid places that can trigger your reaction. 5 Natural Antihistamines For People With Allergies

  1. Dry Your Ears After Swimming

It’s necessary to dry your ears completely after swimming or taking a shower since leaving your ears wet could lead to an infection. It’s especially, important to dry your ears after swimming since the water contains a lot of particles and chemicals that can irritate your skin. Additionally, a lot of water gets trapped in your ear when you swim which you should make sure to remove.
