Mayonnaise is a thick creamy dressing that’s incredibly versatile in the kitchen. It can be used in salads, sauces, sandwiches, baking, and more. The world is your oyster. Here are other unusual ways to use mayonnaise in the home aside from wolfing it down.

Medicinal and therapeutic uses

1. Soothe sunburn

Mayonnaise has a soothing texture that makes it a perfect salve for soothing sunburn.

2. Prevent lice

Apply mayonnaise to your child’s hair and comb through it then rinse well. It works by leaving the hair with a slight sheen of oil which makes it difficult for lice to attach to and repels any lice present.

Beauty

3. Hair conditioner

Mayonnaise has emollient properties, i.e., it has the quality of softening or soothing. Work some mayonnaise into your hair and leave it in for at least one hour. Rinse it and enjoy the conditioning properties of this dressing.

4. Exfoliating skin

Apply mayonnaise to dry areas such as elbows, knees, or the face. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes then wipe it off and apply your usual moisturizer or lotion. You can add olive oil to it and apply it to your skin to treat yourself to a moisturizing spa day. To heal flaky heels, add olive oil to mayo then apply it to your feet. Let it sit for a while before washing it off.

5. Manicure

Dip your fingernails in a bowl of mayonnaise for five minutes then wash off to remove hangnails and strengthen your nails. You can also choose to generously apply mayo to your fingertips and wait five minutes before washing off.

Cleaning and general uses

6. Ring removal

Rub mayonnaise on the finger where your ring is stuck then slightly tug and it will slip off.

7. Remove crayon marks

Simply dab some mayonnaise on the affected wall or surface, let it sit for a while then wipe away and the crayon marks will come off.

8. Gum remover

Just apply a dab of mayonnaise to gum wherever it is stuck, and it will automatically come out without any residue. From hair to furniture, it will work just as effectively.

9. Remove watermarks from wood

To remove watermarks on wood, rub mayo on the mark then let it rest for several hours before wiping out. The moisture in the mayonnaise displaces the moisture in the wood. If you wipe some mayo on scratched wood, it will leave the cracks less noticeable.

10. Remove price tag and sticker residue

To remove the price tag on glassware, dab some mayonnaise on a cloth and wipe over the tag. It will loosen enough to peel off. It also works for bumper stickers. You can also use mayo to remove sticker residue, tar from grease and sap. Just cover the mess with mayo and let it sit for several minutes before wiping off. Tough car grime may take longer, you can add lemon and soak it again.

11. Polish silver

Rub some mayonnaise on your silver and let it sit before rinsing it clean. It works just as well as fancy silver polish.

12. Clean stainless steel

Wipe away fingerprints on stainless steel surfaces like fridge doors by applying a little mayonnaise on a microfiber cloth and wiping down.

13. Door hinge-lubricant

Rub a little mayonnaise to a squeaky door hinge and the squeak will be gone.

14. Polishing houseplant leaves

Rub a little mayonnaise on a dull-looking houseplant’s leaves then buff it to shine by massaging it in.

15. Clean up paint spills and spots

Add some mayonnaise to the spill and the paint will become loser and easier to clean up.

16. Clean outdoor furniture

Remove accumulated dirt and grime from outdoor furniture by scrubbing the furniture with a sponge soaked in mayo. Rinse it for a brilliant clean.
