VR headsets are more accessible than ever thanks to the rise of the industry. Now, you can easily get a VR headset at home for personal use. You can use it for gaming, entertainment, and a lot of other things, but of course, it’s better to get headsets that really fit your needs.

First off, let’s discuss what VR headsets are. To put it simply, this is a device that will allow you to experience things in VR. It’s most commonly used for gaming, but the technology does have its application in various industries as well. Not everyone is well-versed when it comes to buying a VR headset.

You’d only want the best ones that your budget can afford. If you want a headset that will last you a long time and will fit most of your needs, then here are a few tips on how you can make the most out of your money.

Know What You Want To Use It For

There are VR headsets that stand on their own and only need to be connected to your computer. However, there are also what’s called mobile VR goggles. These are VR devices that you can slip your smartphone in to begin viewing things in VR. There are a few differences between the two.

Tethered VR headsets are more powerful and versatile. They are also more compatible with a lot of games that mobile VR goggles aren’t capable of. It can accommodate the best VR games with high-end graphics as well. On the one hand, these are more expensive and often require a good gaming rig to fully utilize.

VR goggles are your entry-level type of VR device. They aren’t exactly a type of technology. Instead, these are just lenses that you can attach your smartphone or tablet to for VR viewing. It’s a good option if you are just looking to use VR for viewing movies and videos on your phone.

Before you even consider buying a tethered VR headset, you should first know what you want to use it for. If you are looking at high-end gaming, go for tethered VR headsets, but be prepared to pay quite the sum. If you want something cheap or maybe even a gift for the kids, then a mobile VR headset will be more than good enough.

Find A Budget

It’s very important that you first know your budget range first. Cheap VR headsets can cost you around $75 to $120. These are usually mobile VR headsets. If you aren’t looking for something too high-end, then it would be wise to go for these cheaper options instead.

On the other hand, high-end VR headsets can cost somewhere between $400 to $800. Again, these are the best headsets that money can buy. Aside from being durable, these are capable of running more games. Moreover, these headsets are usually sold long with controllers as part of the package.

Dedicated VR Headsets Or Not?

Currently, there’s only one dedicated VR headset out there, and that’s the PlayStation VR. If you have a PlayStation 4 already, then it’s a wise idea to buy this headset instead, as you already have the means to run the VR headset properly.

If you game primarily on your PC, go for alternatives such as the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive. While more expensive than the PlayStation VR, these headsets are still the better choice as they are the only ones compatible with your PC anyway. Keep in mind that you’ll still need a decent gaming rig to run the games.

Camera Tracking VS. Laser Towers

This refers to how the device will detect your movement. The PlayStation VR and the Oculus Rift are two great examples of VR headsets that are powered by camera tracking. The downside is that movement is limited to the range of the camera. On the one hand, it doesn’t take up much space inside the house.

The HTC Vive is the only VR headset that utilizes laser towers. You’ll need a good space in your game room if you want to use the HTC Vive. It offers a more immersive and engaging gaming experience as compared to camera tracking VR headsets. There is a larger range of games to play using this.

VR headsets are amazing additions to your gaming or entertainment set. Buying the right one will not just satisfy your needs, it will also guarantee that what you’re going to be using is one that’s both durable and highly functional. Hopefully, this guide can help you find what you need.
