Malindi is known for its unique architecture, breath-taking scenery, and wonderful eateries. It’s a popular destination for both local and international tourists hoping to enjoy a relaxing getaway at the coast. Additionally, it’s a great holiday destination for those planning a family vacation. It’s located roughly 119 km from Mombasa and it takes about 2 hours to get there by road. However, you can take a plane from Nairobi directly to Malindi. There are several great activities you can do while at Malindi. here are some of them. Travel: 7 Fun and Family-Friendly Things To Do In Malindi

  1. Snorkel At Malindi Marine National Park

Malindi Marine National Park is home to some of the most colourful and diverse sea life including sea urchins, zebrafish, and jellyfish. You can get to see them on a glass-bottom boat ride. However, the best part is you can even swim with them. Snorkelling at the marine park is one of the most magical experiences and you should definitely do it if you can. The park also offers other activities such as windsurfing, camping, and bird watching.

  1. Visit The Gede Ruins And Vasco Da Gama Pillar

These two historical landmarks are a must-see while at Malindi. They tell stories of the pre-colonial era at the coast and are a significant part of Kenya’s history. The Gede Ruins were a well-developed settlement that’s thought to have been founded in the 13th Century. However, its most intriguing history is the mysterious abandonment. On the other hand, the Vasco Da Gama Pillar was erected by the explorer to help him navigate to the Kenyan coast. You will be able to learn more about these structures when you visit them.

  1. Dine At La Rosada

Malindi has a huge Italian community that has highly influenced the food culture in this area. One of the best restaurants to enjoy great pizzas and Italian dishes among others is the La Rosada. This highly-rated, beachfront eatery offers a wide variety of cuisines including Italian and Mediterranean. They have excellent service and you can enjoy tasty meals while admiring the view of the vast ocean.

  1. Take A Canoe Ride At Mida Creek

Mida Creek is one of the main attractions in Malindi. It boasts vibrant greenery, turquoise blue waters, and a rich ecosystem. You can take a canoe ride where you can get to witness the creek’s beauty in all its glory. Additionally, if you want to see wildlife and marine life, a canoe ride is the better option compared to a sunset cruise.

  1. Explore Ndoro Sculpture Garden

Art lovers will enjoy a visit to this spectacular place. It has hundreds of beautiful sculptures displayed around the lush garden of the property. You get a tour from the host herself who walks guests through the garden and explains the meaning behind each sculpture. Not to mention the sculptures are simply breath-taking.  This is definitely an enjoyable, unique, and memorable experience even for children.
