You can never have too many blazers in your wardrobe, and if you do, you can never exhaust the different ways of styling them. When I think of the word blazer, it takes me back to high school days. It reminds me of the amount of trouble I would be in when I forgot to wear my blazer to the assembly on Monday morning. Now looking back, I wonder if wearing a blazer to assembly was such a big deal that it led me into trouble. But that’s a story for another day.
Typically, a blazer is used officially with pantsuits or other formal wear. Recently, however, there has been a trend whereby people add blazers to their casual outfits, and the results are amazing. These blazers are a great way of dressing especially in the Nairobi weather that can’t make up its mind about whether it’s sunny or cold. Blazers cater to both kinds of weather.
Here are a few ways of styling your blazer.
- Blazer Dress
I must admit that this is my all-time favourite outfit. First of all, who doesn’t love an outfit where you don’t have to think about matching it with anything because it falls perfectly by itself? A blazer dress is simply a blazer that is long enough to be worn as a dress. It’s a really casual fit, and it gives off vibes of being confident, outstanding and all-in-all a badass. You can either thrift a long blazer and then turn it into a dress, or you can get a custom-made one from the tailor.

- Blazer and jeans
Here’s another great style. I find this outfit to be a mix of casual and formal, and yet when put together it blends in perfectly. It’s a beautiful way to dress, and can even work out for casual Fridays in the workplace. Moreover, it gives off sassy vibes and this can easily boost your confidence. You can also choose to fold your sleeves a little to add to the styling. This makes it even more casual. The style can also be worn out to lunch with friends, or a family gathering. In simple terms, it’s extremely versatile in terms of the number of places you can wear it. I also like to add heels to this outfit, making it chicer.

- Matching blazer and shorts
Another way of styling your blazer is to match it with a pair of shorts, preferably of the same colour. This outfit is beautiful. It’s comfortable and very easy to put together given that the two parts are already matching. It’s a great outfit for events, parties or even brunch. Although it wouldn’t necessarily work for formal events, it is extremely versatile for casual setups. Moreover, you can always separate the blazer and the shorts and then wear them as two different outfits, pairing them with other pieces from your wardrobe. You can wear this with a bandeau top on the inside, a tank top or a plain coloured t-shirt.

- The oversized blazer
I really like the trend of wearing oversized blazers and sweaters. It’s one of those things you wear to a family gathering and you’ll be sure to hear at least one family member comment that it doesn’t fit you. Then it’s like, “Yeah I know, that’s my style.” The oversized blazer looks great. It can be paired with a number of pieces including jeans and culottes pants. Moreover, it works for both formal and casual wear, and all in all pieces up together very well. The pants can be tight or loose and it will still work. You can’t help but admire the versatility of the blazer.

- The Ankara blazer
If you are trying to add more style, or if you are going for a bolder look, then you might just want to try out the Ankara blazer. The best thing about it is that there are thousands of Ankara designs and you will have a variety to choose from. That’s why you should try this style out. The trick is to find a good tailor who understands your style and its suitability to your body shape. That way, you will be able to find the perfect fit. This style pairs up with a lot of pieces including jeans and a skirt.
