Digital technology has brought about changes and technological shifts that many would say are hard to grapple with, leave alone cope with. From buying CDs to streaming, TV to social media mainly YouTube and then we have podcasts. A possible shift from radio. But did you know that you don’t have to be tech-savvy to listen to a podcast? All you need is the internet and a pair of headphones. Probably the name of the podcast you wish to listen to but that is just a matter of “type” and “search.”

Podcasts are mobile-oriented making them easily accessible and an efficient way to make use of your free time. Unlike radio, they are also not tied to a schedule and importantly you get to choose what you listen to. With podcasts you also have control meaning you can fast forward, replay or even download an episode to listen offline.

Find out more benefits of podcast and audiobooks.

The good thing is that since most of our time is spent on social media – especially if we are on the go, podcasts can influence us to spend time wisely. The following include podcasts that will inspire you this year.

  1. On purpose with Jay Shetty

Known as a retired young monk and personal growth guru in the making, On Purpose with Jay Shetty, focusses on self-development and life lessons you can emulate to become your best self. The podcast hosts famous guests from different parts of the world, who shed light on their personal life, how they became successful, life hacks and the lessons they have learnt along the way. This awe-inspiring source of knowledge is delivered through fascinating conversations, and humour to keep distractions at bay.

  1. Tim Ferris show

This is a business podcast that delivers practical knowledge on entrepreneurship, business finance, personal financing, productivity, time management and other life hacks through raw interviews. Tim Ferris Show is rated as one of the best business/interview podcast hosted by a bestselling author known for books like The 4-Hour Workweek and Tools of Titans: The Tactics, Routines, and Habits of Billionaires, Icons, and World-Class Performers.

  1. The stacking Benjamin’s show

Wondering where to find a podcast that educates you on all things personal finance?

The stacking Benjamins show has your answer. This is a podcast that will impart you with insights on financial literacy but in a way that makes you feel as if you’re in roundtable a table with drinking buddies. Must be because each episode takes place in “Joe’s Basement” as they put it. Nonetheless, prepare to learn and laugh as you amass tidbits of knowledge for a better financial future.

  1. Living truthfully

If you haven’t listened to this podcast by Amani Maranga, it is time you did. As one of Kenya’s best podcasts, Living Truthfully sheds light on grey matters, giving men a platform where they can talk openly and freely. The real-life conversations are a highlight containing in-depth knowledge, awe-inspiring ideas, personal accounts of real-life stories but importantly, an affirmation that no situation is unique.

With an aim to salvage the boy child and address the plight that is mental issues Maranga covers topics from relationships to personal development, business/work tips, parenting and spirituality.

This podcast not only gives perspective and insight into men’s world but it is a melting point of captivating ideas, motivation and powerful messages that might change your life in the long run.

It is as educative as it is addictive. This is by far one of my best podcast and I would recommend it to anyone.

5. The spread Podcast

Hosted by Karenkazlucas or if you’d like Kaz, The Spread podcast only reinforces what we all know. That sex is primal. The podcast is an avenue full of sex-positive messages, insight on relationships, useful information on what many would call grey areas and other topics that of course would be considered a taboo. Why does it make it on this list? Because it is a very important and educative platform with powerful women who are ready to share their experiences, sex lessons, matters on sexual health, hacks but importantly listen. No judgement here! Must be Kaz’s mantra as it perfectly reflects in her strive to normalise conversations around sex and sexuality.

6. The human Interest

Would you like to catch up on stories told by the one and only Evelyn Wambui? Well, she is an amazing storyteller with a very therapeutic voice as well as enlightening content to share with you. The weekly podcast features people who talk about their life, successes, loses as well as their reasons for certain actions. If you are ready to go on a learning curve through stories and inspirational insights, log on to the human interest podcast for this dose of life in 30 minutes or less.

I am a writer with interest in hair, beauty and fashion. I also like telling stories, but most of all I enjoy listening and reading them. If I'm not doing any of the above, I will be trying to crack a game of chess or monopoly. My biggest fear is being ordinary.
