Most of us have found ourselves in an awkward situation on a family vacation. When you’ve exhausted everything you need to do for the day and don’t know what to do with yourselves, we resort to wandering around the hotel. However, the fun doesn’t have to come to an end just because you’ve done everything on the itinerary. Instead of being an antisocial butterfly, you can initiate some quality family time from the comfort of your room. Whether you’re trying to keep the kids busy or bring the family together, all you need are these games to make your family vacation memorable and fun for everyone.

Monopoly

During a relaxed evening in the room, you can play a game of Monopoly. The good thing about Monopoly is that you can have as many players as you want. In fact, the more the merrier. Additionally, it’s a long game so it’s very effective in killing time and bringing the family together. This is a must-have when going on a family vacation.

Jenga

Derived from the Swahili word meaning build, Jenga is a family-friendly stacking game. This game requires both patience and logic making it a perfect game for the kids. It takes some getting used to. However, it’s as much fun to watch the tower grow as it is to watch it fall. It’s a fun learning experience for the kids and a good distraction for the adults. Since it’s very entertaining, you can play Jenga for hours without getting bored.

Charades

If you love guessing games, this one will be your favourite activity on your family vacation. Charades is a card game where two teams win points by guessing correctly which words are on the card. A member from each team draws a card then gives their teammates hints until they guess the word correctly. Exercise your general knowledge and learn something new as well. Not to mention, its fun.

Poker

This is most suited for the adults in the family. Poker is one of the most common card games and there are several ways to play it. It mainly involves gambling. However, in this case, the winner can ask the loser to do a dare. It’s also very entertaining and a good pastime activity to kill the boredom of being in a hotel room.

I Spy

Test your family’s memory and observation skills with this game. It’s pretty simple and involves the whole family, mainly, the children. The first spy picks an object in the vicinity then hints at it by saying something like “I spy with my little eye something round.” He/she does this until somebody guesses the item correctly then the correct guesser becomes the next spy.

Water Polo

If you’re staying somewhere with a swimming pool, there are a number of water sports you can play. One of the most common ones is water polo. All you need is a ball and at least 4 players – a goalkeeper for each side and 2 players. The aim is to score on the opponent’s side winning you a point. It’s a great workout and you’ll have a lot of fun creating such memories on your family vacation.
